Hey everyone I have a Nirvana Northern Lights and the trichomes are 40% amber, pistils are are also about 40% red/brown. I am looking for a 50/50 high, do you think this will be ready friday/saturday? I'm not greedy or anything, just looking at possible chop date. Thanks.

40% amber could be a bit over 50/50 high.
Depends on the strain though.

I would suggest you harvest if that is what you're after.

Do like Danken suggests, take a sample.

50% amber means harvest away my friend. post a few shots along the way

50% amber means a lot of THC has degraded and become CBN, which is only mildly psychoactive and causes confusion, and drowsiness, not a true high or a true stone.

But what the heck, go for whatever floats your boat, even if that is substantially decreased potency.

Aww decisions, decisions. I'm gonna let her go a little more. I checked 2 little leafs one said half amber trichomes, other 30% amber trichomes, I think I need the to sample a bud. Any suggestions for drying a bud in the oven?

Took a sample, not bad, pretty good actually. I forget from last year, how much does the high increase over dry/cure?

Is it a dramatic change of potency? Or just like "its a little better"? I can't remember this from last year.

so essentially you are saying the "couch-lock, narcotic" type of stone is not a stone at all? im kind of confused now.

So what your saying Brick is that if you see any amber trichs then you should harvest?...that is if you want a more up than couch lock?
Am I right? Seems to me that the majority of people are going to say "wait a while" so I really need to know what to look for under the scope. Oh...sorry for highjacking the thread.

If someone wants more couchlock they should purchase a strain or strains that will give them that when harvested at peak potency rather than attempting to alter the stone a strain's genetics will give by harvesting late. Throwing away THC by intentionally allowing it to oxidize and become CBN so there is less of a high and there is increased drowsiness and confusion is not the way to get a real true stone. If a strain does not supply someone with enough of a stone when harvested at peak potency, then the person picked the wrong strain to grow.

Whenever i harvest and the trichomes are all cloudy with a little amber the high is so light, and just plain not very good. I smoke to get stoned, not feel more awake. I would say harvest when theirs a fair amount of amber, but thats just me.

It's a matter of personal taste but yea that is exactly what he is saying. The minute I see amber I chop.
^^^ this. The more amber there is the less potent the final product. There is a really good article in the november issue of high times with pics that explains exactly this, in more detail.

Well put!

Thanks Brick.

I think what he's saying is that if they're all cloudy when you harvest and the effect is too "light" then you should pick a different strain that gives what your looking for instead of harvesting late. Not trying to be an ass so sorry if it seems that way I just think this is the best lesson that could be learned about when to harvest. But again...it's all a matter of personal preference.
