Advice needed on electrical problem

I am currently growing and runing out of amperage to add more light, i will be expanding in the next few days and my closest source of power is about 30 some feet away from the grow room. Would it be safe or Not to run an extention cord from point A to point B, if it is safe what size/type of extention cord would i need, any other gadget would i need to make it safer ? any ideas and tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Having an electrician over is out of the question

I wouldnt do it, but if you do make sure you get a heavy duty cord atleast a 12/3

How much power do you need to pull? I have done some similar to this before. I spent over $150 on heavy duty electrical cords and never had an issue, was pulling 15 amps over to another room.

Thanks bertiswho, im kinds bummed out on that, i guess im gonna have to move my set up to the front of the house (backyard shed is nice and safe and adjacent from my room and office where my comp is, so here i have pretty good control on what goes on and still get to take care of my business in the same time)
Front room is a converted garage supplying power to jacuzzi and wash/dryer plenty of power to tap from, on the downside its close to the street (which can bring many problems as we know) and far from my office and bedroom. Hopefully i can get more opinions to help me make the right decision

Hi Bigjesse, i would be happy with another 1500 watts, it would allow me to add another 1000 HPS and a couple more gadgets.
Was your extention cord inside runing ? mine would probably have to be runing outdoor a few inches off the ground and into a window, i know that sounds dangerous just from the sound of it and that is why am worried about it. I thank you for your input.

This doesn't sound like a good idea to me based on what I am hearing. My extension cord actually went straight up from the outlet, into the attic, back down through the ceiling in the room that needed power. At no time would I have exposed them to potential rain/condensation, etc etc. Additionally, how are you going to secure your house from intruders with open windows and doors with extension cords running in and out?

Great advice Jesse, theses things you just mentioned i failed to consider, add to that the risk of shortcircuits and fire i am definitly not going to go the outside route.
LoL am gonna have to get my lazy ass in the attic and run that cord to the next power feed (dang that brings back some nasty memories, having to remove and bag old insulation in attics in 90 degrees and above heat, sweating like a pig and covered in insulation dust it still hurts just thinking about it, was my first job in carpentry work)
Did you just lay the cord there or fastened it, any precautionary measure you took to make it as safe as possible ?

I had mine fastened in place using zip ties. I will go get the specs of the cables.

That whole "running out a window" thing sounds like a deal breaker to me too though.

You're welcome. Be very careful no matter what you do. It is better by 1,000,000 times to be safe than sorry when it comes to these matters. Only do this if you are certain beyond ANY doubt that it is 100% SAFE! And even then, you do so at your own risk, remember that!

Have you thought of putting in a sub panel where you wanna grow at? to be honest its not that hard to do and you could have as much power as you needed.

Mrmadcow..Could you get me the info on what one would need to add a subbox for a room with 2000watts of hps a window ac 8inch 4inch fans 2 4ft 8tube t5s ocilateing fans.Im sure the smaller tings can run on the plugs that are there now but i need separate for the 2000watts and ac for sure.

a subpanel is a little more than just running a new dedicated outlet. your local codes will be different than mine.basic needs will be a subpanel and breakers for it,wire and a breaker that fits your main panel. if you can run the lights on 220, you could run a 220v 20 amp line w/ 10/3 romex to a timer to the lights and a 110v 20 amp dedicated circuit to the AC w/ 12/2 romex.
