Bwpz' First PF Tek Attempt

I use mostly wheat and rye grain spawns with calcium carbonate (ph buffer) and calcium sulfate (keeps the grains them from sticking togeter) more nutritional value for the fungi which then in turn gives me more fruiting bodies making me not have to grow so often.

Sounds interesting, do you have a link so I can read more about that? I'm trying to learn as much as possible :P

good question, and i read if you dont have a PC the only thing you can get away with is the PF tek.

I have a canning pot which I've been using, but yeah, all I've done is PF Tek :P That's why I could just use my spent cakes for that bulk tek, and just do em both :P

Is the canning pot the same thing as a pressure canner?
If so does it reach 15psi?

I don't think there is enough nutrients in the spent cakes to use them for the rez-effect. The rez-effect works because it uses the nutrients from the WBS (or whatever grain you use).
You could also colonize some BRF jars, then crumble the cakes up and mix them in the verm (using crumbled BRF cakes instead of WBS in that one guide).

Thank you both for that information. My canning pot is like a big metal pot with a lid and a canning rack. Basically just a pot with a rack in it :P

yea first time i did a pf tek i just used a pot and cooked it forever. I have also seen ppl use microwaves to sterilize but that has not worked for me. Walmart and kmart have small PCs for $30-$40 they cook at 10psi and those have worked for me in the past also just have to cook it a little longer.

After my harvest I'll invest in a nice PC :P

Update:

It's been 6 days since I inoculated the first 6 jars. I have since received 2 more needles and finished the other 18 jars. First 6 are showing tiny signs of growth, but so small that it's not even worth a picture yet. Will update again when more pictures can come about :P

Here's my relocated incubator:

Here's where it used to be, and where I now want to put my fruiting chamber:

Should I just use a shotgun terrarium, maybe even another one mounted above it, or would there be a better solution for that area? I'm thinking ahead for when I have both bulk and this going :P

I use a shotgun terrarium.
4 holes on each long side, and 2 holes on the end sides.
All covered with double layered tyvek.
and since I had an opaque lid, I cut a rectangle out and put saran wrap over it so light can get in the top.
My grow log will be up in a few days since my bulk tray is about 50% colonized.
Gonna put it up when I put it in fruiting conditions.

Just 4 holes? I thought you had to put tons, like an inch apart?

My first fruiting chamber consisted of a tub like the one your using as a incubator some bubble rods in the bottom and a aquarium pump then hydroton rocks on top of those for the cakes to sit on. created humidity like crazy.

Well I have 4 holes that are pretty big maybe 2x2 or so. If there isn't enough FAE I'll just have to fan more.

I plan on using perlite in mine. I saw someone use clear plastic drawers with like 4 drawers in it and have each one be its own FC, would that be better?

Like uromastyx said you could also use volcanic rocks and stuff like hydroponic growing mediums.
I'm only using perlite for now, just seems easier for me.

Yes that idea would work, as long as you have enough perlite in each drawer to make it humid enough to grow mushrooms(90%+ RH)
My fruiting chamber is going to be divided into 2 halves. One half for a bulk tray, then the other half for BRF cakes and WBS cakes (experimenting everything)

Yeah I was going to have 2 FC's, one for bulk and one for ckaes. Is 100% RH good, or should it be around 90%?

If its your first bulk start small. Because there easy to contam and you dont want to ruin everything in one trip

always as close to 100% as you can get
