I've been thinking up a storm because of this thread. i think i have come up with some Ideas for you.
Pea Gravel and Sand can be used as a "Replacement" For perlite if its hard to get (and it should be free...)
Gypsum and Sand are used to break down Clay based soil, so mixing Calcium Carbonate AKA. Gypsum (Dry wall) into the soil can make it looser and more arid. Gypsum can be gotten for free if you ask for Drywall scraps. tell them stright up its for the Calcium Carbonate for planting. if you get Sillica Based sand (White sand) with Iron in it (a hint of red/orange) it will do the saem thing as greensand and it will provide Many Micro nutrients.
