I've been thinking up a storm because of this thread. i think i have come up with some Ideas for you.

Pea Gravel and Sand can be used as a "Replacement" For perlite if its hard to get (and it should be free...)

Gypsum and Sand are used to break down Clay based soil, so mixing Calcium Carbonate AKA. Gypsum (Dry wall) into the soil can make it looser and more arid. Gypsum can be gotten for free if you ask for Drywall scraps. tell them stright up its for the Calcium Carbonate for planting. Construction workers dont care what you do, they allways give me some and you dont need much. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10897534/fpart/1/vc/1 <-- Make Gypsum powder from drywall.

if you get Sillica Based sand (White sand) with Iron in it (a hint of red/orange) it will do the saem thing as greensand and it will provide Many Micro nutrients.

I was able to get perlite, but no lime.
Im still using 3 different nutes, a bloom nute, a veggie nute, and a micro nutrient mix (for aquarium plants, no NPK, but lots of stuff in it - and has a pH of 6.5 on the dot, so im happy)

Today, i saw that the largest plant, now almost 2 feet, is showing signs of being FEMALE!! thats great news obviously. I think we all agree seeing the vegetative cock and balls on a plant sucks, and the chopping thereafter is a sad sad affair

The other 2 in flowering still arent showing any signs yet. ill post some pics once the big one shows a lil better, still using a magnifying glass (jewelers' loupe) to see the pistils, but they are there, and pointy as can be.

what does worry me is a lack of sweeteners on the market here, havent seen anything in nurseries, and havent seen molasses in the grocery stores. anyone know of any other substitues? ive heard a very small amount of orange juice diluted in water, lowers pH and adds some sugars, but im reluctant to try anything without some thumb's up on it first.

Looking good dude. Shame about the dog eatin the plants :)

For the record sweetener is a term used to raise PH I think...

But I would think some OJ would probably be ok. Just find some natural stuff. You could always sprinkle a touch of sugar into your water I guess.

I've read mixed things, seems like a good idea in case of a real lack of sugar but the plant should be producing it on its own inside.

First off: There is NO SUCH THING as a Sweetener for plants. it doesn't work that way. Plants CANT Use complex carbohydrates.

Molassis is used to feed the soil bacteria, which "fix" sertain nutrients and make them readily available for uptake by plants roots. unless your using bacteria based soil you dont need molasses, you need something like Carboload.

This is retarded, you have OBVIOUSLY never grown a plant for yourself. doing either of those will kill the plant.

Carbohydrates and what they ACTUALLY do.... http://www.elmhurst.edu/~chm/vchembook/540carbohydrates.html

ok breather dude, breather!
thats why i came on here to ask, im reluctant to add stuff that seems like it doesnt belong in soil already. this is the stuff i was referring to that i used during the first grow, with hydro.

but yea looking up the info on it, its apparently carbs, and vitamins.

well 20 days into 12/12 lighting and i had to chop 1 of the 3 for being male the other 2 are female.

the first is the one i topped, it a fast budder apparently, hard to tell from pics, but its already got the pistils pushing around an inch or so in length, sticking out of everywhere, and we can already get a nice aroma coming from it:

2011-10-20_15-36-49_869.jpg

The other isnt topped, hard to tell from this pic, but the entire plant has a 45 degree lean to it, thanks to some twine i had. its very bushy and very slow with the flowering apparently. ill try to get better pics of this one, this pic doesnt give it the justice it deserves

Some of you might have read that i had a runt plant, crazy number of leaves, all fucked up, slow growing, self-topped, etc, well i decided to turn it into a bonsai type plant, im LST training it, its all sorts of wierd, some leaves are growing upside down, some have irregular numbers of 'blades' or whatever on it, its hella bushy and apparently ready to be put into flowering, even at 24/0 lighting, its already starting to show gender, and this one looks like a dirty dirty girl. i also trimmed the fan leaves hanging over/towards the center of the plant, that way the stem gets more light and promotes growth of the smaller leaves in there:

2011-10-20_15-37-25_52.jpg

to give you guys an idea that entire thing is like 12inches tall from dirt to canopy. it is hella bushy and has huge fan leaves

so im at 1 month into 12/12, gender was showing about 15 days in, and the bud growth has been going for another 15 days. they are small, but everywhere, the 2 main colas have about 2 in nugs on each one. im thinking another month or 2:

i took clones of all of these too, separated them by which plant they are off of, took the clones of the 2 smaller ones they day i put them into 12/12, and i figured fuck it, ill try taking a clone off the one thats in the back, that i know is female, hoping its not too late,
anyways, most of them look pretty good, used some cloning agent i found, and they seem to be ok

so i removed a few of the smaller nuggz from the one thats flowering...

the plant has 4 colas, i took some from the bottom of 1 of the 4 to see if the top of that 1 ends up any different then the others. (as of now, the 2 biggest top nugs are around 6cm)

anyways, heres a pic of one at 34 days into 12/12

haha nah, i have no idea what they are, i have a baggie of mixed bag seeds, and a buddy sent me varied seeds from plants he grows in cali, and an army buddy sent me some from africa. I dont care what kind they are or what they look/taste like. as long as they grow and get me high, im cool with it. I end up cloning the ones i like, and discarding those i dont. Kinda fun when you finally get to smoke them and see what they taste like. "mmmm fruity with a slight banana taste"

UPGRADED VEG ROOM!

So i moved the base of the bigger plants up, and bought another light fixture, got some trays, small pots, more dirt (& mixing stuff) and gave clones their own home.
If your wondering about the metal shelf thats kinda infront of the clones, its to keep the dog out, in case she gets curious. big enough gap for my arm, and camera tho.

Pics are top level, clone level, and 1 from afar. cool right?
