my plant doesn't really double in size when she flowers. I thought that was the case too because that's what i had read. they gain a lot of density and weight but for mine, the height has remained similar. I don't think my plant has gotten any new nodes since starting to flower. the flowers appear on the nodes and between the branches. you will see hairs and that's where flowers grow.

my plant is just really big. maybe she's a bit taller now but it's the difference between 4 feet and 5 feet lol. she's way too big to be carrying around but i do it anyway.

Good news everybody! Today as I entered my room, it had a distinct smell that we all know and love! While it wasn't a strong stink, it was there. Now on to other questions of mine. I understand that the plant doubles or triples in size whens it's in flowering, what I want to know is, will there be new growth and the nodes be as tightly grouped as they are now, or will the plant just stretch and fill out? Or will it be a combination of both?

That depends upon the stain. Indicas tends to stay shorter whilst sativas will stretch more.

Yes, I would expect the internode length to increase. During weeks 1-3 of 12/12, expect this stretch to occur. The further away the light is, the more it will stretch.

I can just picture some sort of 80's movie montage set to Queens - You're my Best Friend with you and your plant MMJ maybe it's because it's already massive it doesn't grow anymore?

I'm guessing my plant is a Indica, jesse, since it has broad and short leaves, well, at least it did when it first started growing. So would it be best to keep it short or will stretching it help with the flowering?

Also a question I forgot to ask, what kind of nutes should I feed it when it's time to flower? Not asking for a specific brand or anything, more in the ball park of more P or more K? and what would be ideal?

Let it do it's thing. Veg it to 12-18 inches based on how much space you have and then flip to 12/12.

In early flower when the plant is still stretching out, you might need to maintain a high level of N, something like 20-10-10 or 30-10-10.

Once the stretching has stopped and the budsites really set in, then you can switch to something like 10-30-20 or 10-20-30. You need to judge based on your plants though, not any predetermined formula.

You're welcome man, and you're right, you can get a rough estimate. I just want to encourage you, like others have encouraged me, to respond to your garden, by understanding what a plant needs and how it tells you it's lacking something.

I have experience with Fox Farm nutrients and have gotten good results. You can also use Jack's, it's pretty popular in soil, pretty inexpensive, and fits many of the nutrient profiles I mentioned before in terms of N-P-K.

Growing plants need a lot of N. Flowering needs a lot of P. I never notice mine being overnuted but when they are little, you shouldn't beed to use too much if you used soil with nutes in it. A lot of commercial soils have nutes in them that last a couple weeks/months! I feed CNS but there are a lot of options that are good. CNS has one for grow and one for bloom and I also have a sea product with K that I add every so often. I try not to overdo it.

Thanks both of you, I'm gonna go look into both your choices. Right now I just fed it some nutrients I got for my garden that's 12-8-5 at 1/4 dose. She's getting really thirsty because I could have sworn I gave her water not two days ago and the soil was extremely dry. Anyways the plant is just barely above the 5 inch mark, I'm not sure if that's too short or not, obviously I'm going to let her grow at her own pace but it just seems a bit short, specially since I'm not gonna try to flower her until she's about 10-12 inches high.

Right now I just fed it some nutrients I got for my garden that's 12-8-5 at 1/4 dose.

Seems like it's working fine for now. I would give her another dose sometime fairly soon (work it into whatever feeding/watering schedule you have) of 1/2 strength and before you go into flower she should be able to handle full strength.

If you want her to grow a little taller faster I think you will be fine moving the lights away from the plant just a touch, but I don't really think that's necessary. She will really start to take off her soon. You are also going to want to think about a transplant sometime in the not so distant future. She looks about ready now.

If I were you, I would find some Mykos. It's mycorrhizae which is extremely beneficial for soil plants. Here is a link for some more info. I don't sell the stuff, just happen to like it. http://xtreme-gardening.com/mykos/what-is-mykos/

She's looking really good!! Are you going to transplant before flowering? What size pot are you using? I think 3 gallon is a good size for a smaller plant. if you have to water often, it can be a sign that the roots are getting too big for the planter. That pot looks like a good size for a while so i wouldn't worry about it now. i had mine in 3 gallon last grow and eventually it became too small but she's 4+feet tall. you will be able to get away with smaller.

Yeah, he could wait.

But generally, once the plant has filled out the pot vertically, it's ready for a transplant. If you look at the last picture he uploaded, the plant is growing over the sides of the container.

Either way, I think he will be fine. Sometimes I like to wait a while before I transplant too. But, if he wants a little accelerated vertical growth, a new pot would help to achieve that which I why I say she's ready now.

The pot is a small 1.5 gallon pot, I was thinking of transplanting her in about two weeks time, kind of want a good root system going. Gonna transplant her into a 3 gallon pot, I really don't want her to be a massive size, maybe a foot and a half or two feet would be good for my area. I'm not too worried about the verticle growth much, more like just being worried and stressing myself out a bit, I'm out of medication so It's hard to relax myself with this grow, which is odd considering that I got into gardening to help with my stress about two years ago. And that mykos stuff looks pretty awesome man.
Another question I have, if I were to use say a fert that's 0-20-8 and one that's 0-0-15, can I mix both ferts into my water at the same time, or should I give it to my plant in different intervals, such was first firt/water, water, water, second fert/water?

Is this total height or vegged height? If total height is what you are referring to, I say transplant now veg for another 2 weeks, and then flip to 12/12.

Yes, you will want to mix them. What's the recommended doses for those?

But you will want to have something with more nitrogen in it than anything else until she is done stretching in about week 2-3 of flower.

I would start with 1/4 to 1/2 TSP of each mixed together, per gallon. 1/4 of each per gallon to be safe. We will be able to tell better once she is ready for them.

I have yet to buy the nutes jesse, those were some that I was checking out from a local gardening shop. But with what you said, I'm gonna look for something with some nitrogen in it as well. I'm also getting really addicted to the smell of my plant, The first thing I did when I got home was just pick it up to take a wiff of it. Hopefully I wont hurt my plant all that much doing so.

Yeah the plant still needs a good amount of N to see it through the stretch. Just be ready to respond to her and have a fairly good idea of what to look for and you will be good.

I have been seeing a lot of pictures lately of people harvesting their plants with severe Mg deficiencies lately as well. Not really sure what's up.

How important is Calcium in plants? The ferts I'm currently using have about 1% magnesium but no calcium, I am using tap water which in this county has a bit of calcium in it, but I'm just wondering what it's for.

Calcium is important in plants. You may want to supplement with CalMag.

Another thing to add to my list of stuff I'll need to get, I wont be able to add those Mykos for this grow, but I'm definitely getting them for my next grow.
