Imminent Harvest! Help with some drying concerns!

Hey RIU.
My first grow (outdoor) is finishing up, I'm planning to harvest this weekend. I am in college and don't have my own place at the moment to dry them however. I read someone say somewhere that your can wrap buds in newspaper and set it out in the sun and it will be dry in 20 minutes, And i was thinking of doing something like this but with brown paper bags rather than newspaper. I am aware of the consequences of quick drying, but i have no other option and I only use Vaporizers so harshness is not an issue for me. Anyone have any experience with this kinda thing? think it would work?

Also, because they are being heated by the heat of the sun indirectly and not by direct sunlight, do you think that potency loss is still of much concern?

20 min? dam man,u dont have a closet or a dresser drawer?a dark place with some airflow is optimal,but understandably yur circumstances are limiting your options.u could get away with drying it in a drawer.But suntlight is the worst thing for your bud,u will loose out on so much.

I could get away with drying it in a drawer? Dude, I'm in a smallish room with another guy, that would totally smell up the whole room. How could i get away with drying it in a drawer? And i figure its less of an issue because its not actually being dried by sunlight...its being sweat dried from the heat that the sun provides. Honestly it would probably take more like a couple hours rather than like 20 minutes. You really think i could safely dry it in a drawer/closet in my room though?

well what exactly are you worried about? your room mate or like dorms around you, visitors? because if your not worried about your room mate than ya a drawer would work because it only needs to be in there for like a week then it will be set. but other wise couldnt you find a spot at a friends place or somthing? maybe a friend in another dorm where he doesnt have to worry about the smell?

Yeah. my roommate knows i smoke and is cool with me vaping in the room but i doubt he'd appreciate if i was drying a bunch of weed in our room. id also be concerned about it smelling from the hall. i have some friends who could easily drawer dry it for me where they are, but the issue with involving your friends (who don't even know about my plants) is that they will then want a cut of your stash... Do you think its worth a drawer dry to relinquish part of the harvest?

Dude, seriously! If you think you will get caught and get your ass kicked outa college and possibly reported to the fed's, dry it how you plan, diminished strength weed is a small price to pay. Dont ya think?

Oh i completely agree, i was mainly just asking if people thought my plan would work. Like, could i head to my plants in the afternoon and do this, and head home that night with dry weed?

Also, Ive read a lot of threads about this but there is a lot of controversy, is it an OK idea to just straight up hang my plants in the shade of some trees and leave em for a couple days outside (the weather for the next 5 days is prefect)? i realize mold could potentially be an issue, so i dunno.

If choosing between these two methods, which is safest and best for my situation in anyones opinion?

Ok here is what I would do.

Set out early and take some of those glass air tight jars, dry as you plan through the day. When you need to leave check how dry the bud is and put in jars.

Set out every day with the jars to do further drying if needed, watch for mould from the minute you put the buds in the jar and open the jars up regularly for 10 minutes to allow for air circulation.

You may find it all gets dry in one day (having never tried I dont know) you may find it takes 2 days but at least when you return to your dorm its in airtight jars!

Let me know how it goes because, as I've said, never dried like that so would be interested in the outcome. I wouldnt fancy hanging the whole plant out overnight, you may find you come back to a plant that has eloped with another stoner.

a quick semi dry under the sun would be fine, although it's best to keep the buds out of intense light!! the best thing you could do is let it get to the point where the stems are just about ready to snap when you bend them, then put the buds into ball jars and cure them. the smell will only happen when you open the jars for a few mins at a time. if you dry the buds too fast, with no cure, it just isn't as good! not even close. good luck!

Alright thanks for the input guys, I'm going to go for it. Im heading out tomorrow and will hopefully be coming home tomorrow night with a nice collection of curing buds

you can dry like that, your buds arent going to cure very well. if you wrap with news paper or wrap with paper bag (but cutting it up), poke holes in the paper bag so it can breath. you dont want to create mold issues, or if your going to just put paper bags over the top of the plant you can use clothes hangers to "close" to keep the top shut.

me personally , and i know you said you cant do this , i cut all fan leaves off, leaves the smaller leaves on. i hang dry for 5-6 days in temps of 70* and humidity at 40% . . after that i cut all the steams (with nugs and leaf still on) and throw them in paper bags crease the tops of the bag carefully and accurately (dont just roll the bags up) and continue to dry for another 3-5 days until the steam snaps in half. Then after all that shit , i trim . My buds come out hella crystally and smell great !!
