What do you do when you have to leave town for several days or a week?

What do you all do when you're the only one that tends to your crop (in a small 2-4 plant grow situation) and you need to leave town for a couple days or a week? In most cases, veg and flowering, I'd imagine the lighting situation would probably be okay, but what about water?! Anything else I'm missing as well?

get a cheap water pump, a tote and some tubing and a timer. Rig up a drip system.

here was my plan but havnt had to do it. take those shoe laces and not cut in half. coil the lace inside the bottom of the pot with an end hanging down out of the bottom of the pot from the middle hole. transplant the plant to the new pot. support the pots just above the water res. with the laces hanging down into the water. the lace will wick the water up to the bottom of the pot.

large containers may need a couple of wicks hanging out the bottom.

make sure you have the lights set to a distance you think will be good until you get back.

I use plain rain water in my water tank. When very nicely adjusted it will hold for a weeks time without getting unpleasant for plants. Ebb and flow system.

Trust no one!!! Believe me. If it's an absolute emergency, water them well just before you leave, and get some of those "water globes" http://www.amazon.com/Aqua-Globes-AG011706-Watering-2-Pack/dp/B000FHAJ90 We use them for the house plants and they do seem to work.
Growing has it's drawbacks in that you really can't safely take any time off.

I will get someone I trust when I leave town next time. Last time I left I used some shitty aqua globes and my plants died. But if you have no one, my friend swears by this: Claber.

A coke bottle with a couple of holes can do that trick for free - and hold more water. Just melt a couple of holes in the cap. Make a very small hole in the "bottom" letting in a little bit of air and you got it.

Yeah, I just found out about it this week. I have to go away in February for 10 days so that is what I am leaning towards...I'll keep in on the d/l from now on.

So after finding this link (http://www.ehow.com/how_5159665_make...ng-system.html) I gave it a try in a pot of dry dirt and let it sit overnight just to see what it would do. It works like a charm! Judging by what I've seen just from this one test, I'd say this is a winner -- good for anyone leaving any house plants (etc.) while on vacation. Just make sure your bucket of water is big enough to sink several inches of the wet end of the lace and get a good 4-6 inches of the other end of the lace submerged in the dirt to distribute the moisture over a larger area. Very cool. Talk about low tech, low price, yet effective!
