Update: Start of Week 9 Flowering (day 56)

  • Lots of picts as i'm not gona have such a full cab for some time :(

  • Blue cheese is on the home stretch! She's looking real nice, i think one more week will be perfect to avoid severe couch lock. Calyx are swelling quite nicely and i hit her yesterday with a late flowering supplement called "Ripen"


    "Ripen is a superb late bloom feed that has the perfect nutrient formulation for the end of flowering/fruiting. Due to its unique composition, Ripen accelerates the final stage of flowering to provide a fantastic finish to your fruits and flowers before flushing. It can also be used to speed up the flowering process for an early finish."

    Apparently....

    Anyway i'm gona let the soil dry out until saturday, then leech the absolute f*ck outta her and then harvest her 7 days from today! I'm hoping not to get any nutes left over in the bud, even though i've fed her half way through her 2 week flush.

    The Sour Diesel also got a feeding of this Ripen yesterday, i think i'll use it once more next feeding and then flush from then on, so she'll get a 10 day flush or something.

  • The Sour Diesel cola's still look like they're getting fatter, and they're roughly a foot long. I'll be harvesting this a little earlier than advised, but hopefully this "Ripen" additive will bring things back on track.

  • Turns out I'm going to Italy in a couple weeks, found out today, so I'm not gona be around for when the blue cheese has dried and needs to be cured, or when the sour diesel is drying, which i'm hugely pissed about but what can you do? Gona have to leave them in some trusty hands. Worst case scenario i come back to find the sour diesel has been dried too much and the blue cheese hasn't been burped enough. I've got just over a week to dry the blue cheese, should be more than enough cos the cola's are much smaller than the SD, and i'm hoping, it takes like 10 days for the Sour D to dry (duration of my holiday), so i can begin curing as soon as i come back. To prolong the SD drying i'm gona cut down each branch with a nice bit of branch at the end, hopefully this'll work?

ahhhh sucks about the timing but im sure itll be fine, 7 days drying should mean the BC doesnt need much burping ... hopefully. Either way, right now they look fat as shit and readying for the big day, that SD is gonna be a yielder for sure!

Yeh the SD is a chubby girl but there's a clear difference in maturity of the buds compared to the BC, hope 70 days will be enough for her to finish. I thought the more u have to burp the jars the better it'll cure, as it'll be drying/drawing out the moisture slower. Im sure i fucked up the dry/cure for my lemon haze, really wanted to do it nice and slow this time.

Anyway anyone been to italy? How easy is it to find bud out there? Might just have to take some with me...

lol the burping is just to realease any excess moisture and prevent mold man ;) I put mine into jars when the outside of the buds were crispy, then the moisture from the centre of the bud spreads evenly then just burped for a week or so to get it a bit dryer and powwww!

not sure about italy but europe in general is pretty easy to find bud, look for the student looking type :lol:

Haha i seeeeeeee. U've put my mind to ease a little. Right im gona go overboard with this leech tmrw and hopefully things should be sweeet by this time next week.

If i can find a link in Dubai, Italy shouldnt be too hard!

End of Week 9 Flowering - Blue Cheese Harvest

  • Decided to chop the blue cheese today, the pot wasn't quite as light as i'd hoped meaning the buds were relatively wet. Because of this i decided to do a rough trim to get rid of the bigger leaves, and i'm planning on fine trimming the buds once properly dried.

  • Trimmings were separated into 3 piles, 1 fine trimmings pile for hash using the bags/ice method, 1 pile of what i call mickey mouse buds but others call popcorn buds which i spread out on a black tray and left at the bottom of the dryin cab to dry, and the other pile was leaves to be thrown out.

  • Made a drying rack out of that kids construction toy K'nex, had some lying about in the loft. Worked really well, once all the buds were hung up i could easily move them about and re-arrange them if need be.

  • In my drying area, temps range from 24-28C, a little higher than hoped, but humidity seems to be bang where i want it, hovering at around 45-50%. All buds have been hung and none are touching another or the sides of the enclosure. I have NO FAN going, but there is a constant stream of fresh air coming in and good extraction, so the airflow is quite high and constant. The temp/humidity readings look good so i'm not too worried about mould problems. The main cola's were opened up a little bit so air can get into them properly. No mould this time!! The cabinet when closed is pitch black.

  • The trich covered trim was collected and put in an airtight box before being stuck straight into the freezer, bottom shelf. Don't know if you're meant to stick wet trim in the freezer but i guess i'll find out. Threw the trim away last grow...

  • Trimming all that bud left me with a nice ball of resin on my scissors, so i quickly rolled it up and smoked it after everything was done. Was surprisingly nice! Real mellow buzz, very typical hash smell and a hashy taste.

  • Didn't do a wet weigh in so give it a week and i'll let u know how much it roughly yielded.

Update: Start of Week 10 Flowering - Day 63

  • With the Blue cheese out the way, the Sour Diesel has this 400W bulb all to herself. Therefore i stuck her in the middle of the cupboard and opened up her branches to allow more light to reach further down the plant and to improve air flow.

  • Whilst there aren't as many buds as the blue cheese, these branches are fucking HUGE and the buds are both extremely thick and long, so i'm looking for her to out yield the blue cheese by quite a lot.

  • Leeched her today with probably x4-x5 the amount of water than soil. First time all grow, and i said at the start i'd do it once every month or so... oh well.

  • To me the buds still look like they've got more than a week to go, still quite a few white pistils, which is long as its between either harvesting her at exactly 70 days, or 80 days. It's meant to be an 80-85 day strain so maybe i'll let her go while i'm away. If i do it'll mean she'll get a full 2 week flush with a leech right at the start of those 2 weeks. Taste should be on point! Plus this also means i can dry her and cure her to my specification instead of leaving it down to someone else.

hahahhaha, love the kennex (never had to type that before and i dont know how to spell it, lol) drying rack! wicked harvest as well mate, looks like you got 3 oz on that one easy, the SD is the bigger of the two as well isn't it? its gonna love all those 400 watts to itself. Is that all scissor hash?!?!? you got a bloody lot from one plant!

Cheers, yeh i duno, sometimes i look at the drying rack and it dusnt seem like 3oz. Knex is the one! i just take the whole rack out the cupboard to inspect the buds. The main colas are already feelin a little crispy on the outside, might stick em in a jar for a bit, see how much they remoisten. SD is much bigger, that will 100% b over 3oz. Aint that much scissor hash! Just a close up picture. That little saussage is only a lil longer than a small skin

I REALLY like your drying rack man thats awesome!!! nicely done i'm super impressed, i'm doing my first grow from seed, i've grown two clone crops but i'm ready to do it forreal.

Haha my drying rack is gettin more attention than my bud! It worked a treat, will re-use it for my next harvest for suure. I'm the opposite, Ive only grown from seeds but lookin to grow from clones next time i get something going, don't like playing hit and miss with pheno's. If you get a journal up, gimme a shout.

Did a quick weigh yesterday, buds are still very slightly moist, and still have stalks attached. Came to 3.5oz. They've been in jars for around 3 days now. 3 hours after introducing them to jars they were moist again so i left the lids of the jars open and went paintballing, came back approx 15hrs later and they'd gone crispy again! Stalks still bending not snapping though. So i stuck some fresh stalks in the jars to help re-moistened the buds. Leaving the lids open for 15hrs i think dried them out too fast, but it was between that or leaving the lids on and risking mould. Past couple days ive been opening them every 6hrs or so, re-arranging the buds, and blowing fresh air into the jars before closing them. Now on i think i'll open the jars once a day. Smoked a couple small buds, you get hints of a really nice sweet delicious taste, but no-where near as strong as i'd like. Hopefully a good cure will really bring it out. Buds are sitting in jars at the moment, if anything a little on the spongy side. Obviously i have no idea, but i'd guess they were at the 10-15% water content level judging by how they feel. They're not re-moistening as fast as they previously had done, so now i'm trying to slow down the rest of the drying process as much as possible.

sweet man, 3.3oz (ish) is a tidy haul for one plant in that space. pukka said the taste and smell really came out in his after a 2 week cure, curing makes everything better :D your SD smelling sour or diesely lol?

Yeh i'm happy with 3.3(ish), hit my target so its all good. For un-cured, barely dry stuff, it tastes real nice, and is really really smooth. Got a knockout buzz. Cant wait to try it when i get back from holiday! Should be well on its way to being cured by then. The SD smells and looks insane, smells both sour-y and diesel-y, but if i had to pick one i'd say it has an overly strong sour citrus smell to it. The smell reminds me of the kind of smells that are bad for you... i.e. petrol/thinners ect. The buds on it are hands down the best buds ive ever grown/seen... cannot wait to try her out

Update: Sour Diesel Harvest

  • Got back from holiday to find the branches on the plant relatively dry, still wet, but dryish on the outside. So i tried to revive her with plenty of water, even though she had very few green leaves by this point due to the extended flush.

  • Gave her 48hrs darkness before the chop for no apparent reason, turned the lights off and couldn't be bothered to harvest her for a couple days (Harvested at 81-83 days)

  • In an attempt to prolong the rest of the drying process i stuck the branches straight into jars to remoisten them before allowing them to air dry naturally. For the next week i was taking buds out/closing jars on a daily basis, allowing them to dry a little more each time. Now they're pretty much at the water content i want them to be so the jars are staying sealed, and being opened every 3-4 days. Didn't go in that hard with the trimming so small yellow leaves are wrapped up in the buds. Trim collected and frozen before being used to make some hash.

  • Weight of SD Buds.... 4.6oz! Total weight from this grow is Just under 8oz which is a lot more than i was aiming for so happy days. My next target is 10oz in this same space.

Yeh man super crystally! Its a strange pheno, very very sweet berry smell with cheese-y undertones, but it taste more cheese-y, doesn't quite have the super sweet blueberry flavour, instead its more musky, if u know what i mean. Delicious smoke either way and a really really pleasant high. Next blue cheese i grow i want to try and get a more blueberry pheno in clone form and grow that out

So lemme ask, was the 10+ week grow worth it with the medical seeds sour D? I have 3 of them vegging right now while my flowering tent has just been flipped and will be held up with the ones in there for the next 8+ weeks.

I was planning on doing a sour d grow mixed with a few other random strains but for whatever reason I thought the sour D was a 9 weeker strain.... I'm back peddling with it now trying to convince myself to just take cuts of the 3 and put them on the back burner and get some 7-8 week strains in there. I have seen very few medical seeds sour d reviews, grows or anything....of course I figured this out after I ordered a 5 pack of it, as weary as I am about doing that long of a strain (I can only grow between october and may so I want to get as many grows as I can in).

So would you say you'd grow it again?

Also, good work man, thats a pretty damn good harvest. I dont think I got that much with my 1000 watt light on my first grow.
