Greenville/Eureka Township meeting to discuss MMJ

The meeting is in one hour, make sure to come out if you live in Eureka township so we don't get zoned right out of town.
your township will follow ever other township in the State and put it on a moratorium.

Good luck...they may also try an make it so that a cg must get a business license, and submit to code inspections (elecrical,Fire) like they did in Grand Rapids.....the moratorium move seems to be used more for dispensaries.

It went well. Oddly enough I was the only person at the meeting that did not have to be there. I opened by cautioning them against 1000'ft from schools/churches regulation for caregivers and/or patients. I explained that a caregiver running a home business has a house that looks just like any other. I explained a caregivers desire to keep it that way for security reasons and why such regulations do nothing but prevent people from producing their own medication and prevent qualified caregivers from having a job.
The board asked a lot of questions, I explained a few simple points of law. I was asked why distance regulations for things like liquor stores shouldn't apply to cgs. I responded by telling them there is a difference between production and sales. I restated the difference between MMJ production and distribution, that caregivers are not dispensaries/clubs that have visibility to the public. I told them how I connect with patients and the certification process. I was asked why the 1000' drug free zone doesn't allready preclude cgs near schools. I explained to them that the drug free zone is where additional penalties apply to drug offenders similar to tickets doubling in construction zones. I told them since there is no crime so there is no issue. I tied it back to the original question and said we're not talking about liqour and illicit drugs, we're talking tylenol. I answered a couple more, told them about hash production and it's uses, some other questions I can't remember. I feel good about most of the meeting the board didn't seem to have an anti-MMJ stance in any way I could tell. There was a lot of smiling and they thanked me several times for coming in and helping them understand the situation.
The only part of the meeting that I didn't like was at the beginning when I realized that Eureka township completely surrounds Greenville but doesn't contain the city! >.< So I'm still F'd by the cities 1000' rule but hopefully me efforts will end up being helpful for the townships cgs.

Oh, one board member asked me if the state regulates the prices I charge to prevent overcharging. I told them it's just the free market, if I tried to charge $500 an ounce and she was charging $250 I wouldn't be able to keep my patients. As I said "she charged.." I pointed at the 60+ year old female board member. They got a kick out of it and another member joked that she had glaucoma and I told her in that case she should be talking to me! I think everyone was laughing.
