Super Silver Haze Start of grow problem!

Hey all,

This is super silver haze, started from seeds (fem)

I have never grown from seeds before so I do not know what to expect. So far I have just been watering with 6.5 PH filtered water. When should I start the veg nutrients? Do these look fairly normal? They are about a month and a half/two months from the seed I would say? I only have two plants growing btw.

Any suggestions? (i've posted pics)

I personally would toss them. They should look like that only the first 2 weeks of its life. You can keep it growing. From what it looks like its either over watering or underwatered due to such a big pot for a little plant. Please explain a little more with lighting and when do you water how often etc.

Thanks for the reply.

2 weeks after planting the seeds and they should look like this?

They have been in those red dixie party cups (i put them in these pots 2 days ago). When they were in the red cups i would water them when the tops of the dirt was completly dry. On average that was about once every 3 to 4 days. Is it beneficial to have a very strict watering schedule and stick to it no matter what?

The temp is around 70 to 80 F range.

Lighting wise, I'm running a lamp that holds 8 54W tubes. The light sits about a little less than a foot away. I also have small computer fans blowing a very mild gust at the plants (plants barely move)

I would have left them in the dixie cups a little longer, just until they have 2 or 3 internodes, you basically want a good root structure before transplanting and when she starts growing thats when the roots are growing as well. If your using 8 54w tubes you will need them 2 to 6(maximum) inches away from the top of the plant, tubes and cfls can't produce enough light to be that far away. Are they T5,T8 or? You don't have to be strict with your watering schedule. Just water when needed about an inch of soil dry before watering is what I do. I like to water 2 times a week so I mix a ratio of perlite to my soil to make that happen.

Hey...

Two freaking months!!! Surely you mean weeks???

Any suggestions?
Dont think i'm being a d1ck but maybe take up growing Bonsai trees instead, i think you got a real calling!lol!

Sorry i'm stoned! Now that purple your seeing on top is lack of nutes, now either you have locked the nutes out or seriously been lacking in nutes and that things desperate. Maybe Ghetto is onto somthing, what brand and type of soil did you use for the small cups and this soil??

Im maybe down with the overwatering but looks more nutrient problem than overwatering although it cant hurt to establish wether or not your overwatering first?

Inhale indica says toss them but i say not till youve worked out there problem and got some good growth. 2 plants to me means give one a 1/4 strength of veg nutes and let the other go a little longer before watering and see which one gets better first, kind of like a fun race.

If they both die you never met me right!lol! Peace

Maybe my timing is way off... But it is definitely not two weeks. I would say I bought the seeds sometime end of September, so maybe just a month. I was reading another forum thread and the guys plants growth stunted apparently due to over nute. I have only been watering with PHed water. Is it possible the soil itself is giving that many nutrients? I'm pretty sure it's a normal organic soil?

Now that purple your seeing on top is lack of nutes, now either you have locked the nutes out or seriously been lacking in nutes and that things desperate.

So either too much nutes or lack of? I didn't want to give them any nutes because I thought they were way too small still?

I used the same soil in small and large pots? Is that bad?

Would it be stupid to try and transplant them back into the smaller dixie cups first?

They get really hot though? Like the heat it produces 4 inches away is pretty warm even for my hand.
This sounds like the whole problem in a nutshell, lights too close.

How can you tell? Will it say on the bulb?
a T8 is an inch thick whereas a T5 is 5/8ths of an inch thich off the top of my head. Peace

Well they weren't too close before, but I was told 2 to 6 inches away maximum?
For seedling start the T5's and T8's about 8 to 10 inches away to start with them move them closer as the plants get bigger as a rule of thumb. Rather the lights be a little too far away than too close just like ferts, rather slightly too little than too much.

I dont think your plants are asking for that much light at this stage anyway looking at them so is a simple thing to try and also move back to what you got them at now.

Like i said -

Try moving the lights up a little as well plus -

Observe what you can from these two because it will help for the next grow. Peace

Interesting, T5 that you say you have shouldn't produce that much heat. I have both t5 and t8, They work fine at 3 inches away.

6 inches away from the top of the plant maximum is what works for me. You can do what King says start 10 inches and bring them closer if you want. Both work fine.

Those are a month old?!
How in the....

I'm going to water them with 200 ppm amount of nutes
When i said these two i meant your two plants not mine sorry and i hope some change for the better comes from the nutes, somehow we need to find out what originally went wrong if possible to eliminate it from the next grow, sometimes too much goes wrong to identify one single thing. Keep us posted. Absolutly try and raise the lights like me and the other poster recomended. Peace

I have a few plants that have been vegging for almost 2 months right now and I have had to top them 2 times already and already 12 inches tall. I can post a picture when the lights come on tomorrow.

Hey guys! I'm happy to report that adding nutes was definitely the solution. I put in about 400 PPM and take in the curled up guy!

PS, from a seed when should you start adding nutes? Once the initial two rounded leaves are dead?

No, not when the leaves are dead. You will want to add nutes when the plant tells you when it needs it. For example: your plant right there is starting to become pale green then will turn yellow. That is a sign of N def. So add a bit of N would help.
