When looking at seed banks they show flowering period.
Is that the amount of 12/12 time or from seed to bud?:-(

I count it from when I see the first white hairs, which is usually a week or week and one half after the switch to 12/12.

take it as a barometer, but not fact. the plant is finished when it is finished, get a 30x microscope or better and look at your trichomes, if they are turning amber, then the buds are almost ready or already finished depending on the strain.

I guess I have not asked my question properly.
When your surfing for beans part of the description is "flower period" x amount of weeks.
What does this mean?
Forgive me for such a stupid question.....Still a Newbie

Since everyone answered it good I'll answer it badly. It means the time of weeks from 12/12 and a rough guide only.

does not it means the time AFTER the flower stalk has grown (AKA the stretch) and flowering has started on the stalk AKA cola, that can take weeks to commence in some strains.

its just a guide, the quoted flowering times are phenotype dependent , most strains that are 6/7 week i grow for 8-9 weeks
i find most indica dom hybrids need atleast 8 weeks , most sativa doms 9 weeks onward
i am starting the 13th week of flower of 1 phenotype at the moment of a strain (angel heart) that is said to be finished in 8-10 weeks

the time quoted by seed companies is the total time once 12 hours has been switched, but it works out a good rule of thumb, to do as frmboi says, and start it from when you see buds, or just add 2 weeks to the stated grow time if it is under 7 weeks, still its just a guide and some phenotypes will be longer, rare for them to be quicker .. i find most plants stated at 8-9 weeks are ready around that time, indica doms that is :)
