This is old but here i go. Im not sure its really needed. The whole ballast s pretty much one big heat sink. I can put my bare cheek touching my 600w lumatek ballast after its been on straight for a month.

So id say no its useless for the 600w, might be useful for the 1000w but its cheaper just to buy a little small table fan and aim it at the ballast. When i do that it feels like cool/warm metal and never gets hot.

i agree. i can lean on my phantom for hours and not get burned. with todays new digitals i would stay away from any that use a built in fan or are not completely sealed. just more parts to have problems with.

Aside from the "Don't need it" issue, the OP is asking about using it inside a tent. The device is just a fan! It's not going to make any heat disappear, it will just move the air and redistribute the heat (inside the tent).

My question is, why would you want to put the ballast inside the growing environment anyway?

I had these extra add-on fan systems on all my lumatek's for about a year or more. I use them only to direct the little heat created from the ballasts to be directed up to my main room's exhaust. I have separate veg and flower rooms within this main room so I don't have an issue with heat in the grow rooms, I just want all heat exhausted out. There is no real use for these add-on fans being digi lumatek's already run fairly cool.

for those of us that have a truly sealed room having no holes in walls or equipment visible outside the room is important.

Your point makes sense! But the OP had his ballast inside the tent itself. It just seems a little unusual, in that situation.
