Is this setup too intense for seedlings?

500w (1000w on 50%) MH 12" from sprouts. I might have jumped the gun a little, but I woke up this morning really excited to see the first sign of life in my GH Green-o-matics. One is in a 3 gallon and the other is in a 5 gallon. I'm worried that the conditions may be a little intense for the little guys. The one on the right is darker than the other. Actually, the one on the left looks yellow. Right now I'm keeping the top of the soil moist with rainwater. When do I start feeding? 5 days? A week? GAH XD

I would maybe back off a bit on lights as its better to stretch a bit than burn the babies. Depending on your medium (soil) you may not need to feed for some time, but a general rule is to feed after the first week or two. A seeding doesn't need much in the way of food right away, as it has a stored food source in the cotyledons.

Seedlings should'nt need nutes if you're using a good soil. Watch your plants, they'll let you know. I vegged with a true 125 watt CFL about nine inches above my girl until I hardened her here a few weeks ago to go under my 600 watt hps. I use RO soil and nutes. I did'nt feed her for like a month and then started at quarter strength. Now I use max dosage on nutes and a little epsom salts for mag. Cal has'nt been an issue. IMHO just watch your plants brother. I got caught up in all the GOT TO BE JUST RIGHT bullshit and it hurt in the long run. Just let her grow, she wants to grow.

I'm using Sunshine Mix #4. From what I gather there's little to no nutrient value in SM4. I raised the lights about 6"... and I noticed the yellow one had shrunk a little bit.

It's pretty easy to get caught up in everybody's conflicting methods... I mean, there's so much material out there and I want to believe it all, lol.

I know the feeling. I had a hell of a problem with PH. A person I talked with said the soil adjusted the PH and not to worry. Reluctantly I followed his advice on one plant and he was right. Now I just watch my plants and give them what they want. People make this shit alot harder than it has to be. I just LOVE my girls and they LOVE me back.

I agree with slonez. Just love your girls for now. Don't nute until the cotyledons start to yellow and die off. I am on my first grow and havent had not one problem yet (knock on wood). I think it is because I am a stay at home dad, so I have the time to love my babies. I even play music to them while the lights are on.

Are you kidding? My three and a half yo grandson has started UFC training. HELL YEAH I"D FEED HIM STEAK!
yea when I was a baby it was right around the time the food processor just came out and was popular. My parents used to just make dinner as usual and throw a plate of food in the processor and I would eat whatever they were eating. Steak, potatoes, all that shit. That went on until my doctor told them I was a fatass and needed a diet haha
