So ita my first grow and im going with botanicares readygro soilless mix used in conjunction with some hydroton on the bottom of my pots. I was taking my seedlings from root riot cubes and putting them into bigger 4 inch pots for easier handling later on. However i was watering up my ready gro with tap water which i had ph'd to 5.8 to get them ready for the riot cubes. before i put them in i was checking the drainage water for ph and it keeps coming out to around 6-6.2 ph. My tap water is 180ish ppm. Why is that i put 5.8 into the mix and the run off keeps coming out higher? Im missing something here and cant figure it out. My the hydroton pellets on the bottom of the pot have something to do with it? not sure. I did rinse them off and had them soaking in 5.8 water for a few hours. I ran 5.8 water through the pots multiple times thinking maybe it just to rinse out some stuff. On top of that i freaking forgot to label my damn babies so now i dont know which one is jorges diamonds , and which ones are vertigo autos!!!!. Im hoping when they get a little older i will be able to tell them apart. Holy runon sentences batman!

paying for a good soil in my view gives a newbe LIKE ME every chance.its so easy to fuck it up under feed over feed just stick to something easy like a 5.5.5 and experiment......

I established my bennies and microbes long before transplant and I have'nt checked PH or runoff since. They don't seem to mind at all.

there's probably lime in that soil to keep the ph up. The autos will flower in about 5 weeks then you'll know what's what.

so should i keep watering with 5.8 for now?...and not worry about the runoff for now? i dont want any nute lockout in a few eeks or so when i start feeeding them. what ya think?

Your water should be around pH 6.8, which is probably about where it is out of the tap. Even though it's soilless mix, you still want to treat it like a soil grow. Technically it is "hydroponic," but not what you'd typically think of as hydroponic since the soilless mix isn't inert like a hydroponic growing medium, it's carrying nutrients that would only be found in your water if you were doing something like ebb & flow. And yeah, frmrboi is probably spot on about the lime thing, that's what's raising your runoff pH. You're not going to get lockout right now because there's nothing to lock out, they're still running off reserves, but maintaining your pH at 5.8 risks nutrient lockout once you start feeding the roots. I wouldn't worry so much about ppm's and pH of your feeding solution (or plain water, if that's still where you're at), just keep track of your soil pH (6.8 is ideal) and keep an eye on runoff pH (decreased runoff pH might mean you've got salts built up in the soil) and follow a basic feeding regimen (your nutrient supplier should publish one.) Watch for your cotyledon leaves (the first set, the rounded ones that don't look like typical cannabis leaves) to start dying for an indication of when to start feeding, it should probably happen faster than a few weeks out. Keep it simple on the first grow and get technical once you've got the basics down. Good luck, mate.
