I would go cheep at first. Fluorescent is good for a while keep them close to the plant. You can get a a ballast that can switch to MH or HPS but they're pricy. A hardware store has MH yard lights for like $50 comes with a bulb all you need is wire and a plug end with a ground. no need for a ballast if you want cheap. Otherwise I'm sure people on his forum could help out if price is not an option.

yea thats what im using now but the price of all the cfls i have to get i could just get like 1 or 2 of the 70 watt floodlights(so the floodlight ones cant use conversion bulbs) and the ground wire does it have to be a 3 prong one? nevermind about the conversion bulb just did some reading so ill probably just get a 70watt hps and mh+some cfls.

A MH bulb will work in an HPS ballast, though it would be better if you disabled the ignitor internally.

I wouldnt bother switching between hps & mh.

The low wattage MH & HPS setups are quite expensive on a dollar per watt basis. You can get a 150W or 250W setup for not much more money.

Watt for watt and dollar for dollar, you are better off going with HID if you can manage the heat.

You can save money by buying a ballast kit and assembling the ballast yourself. For the lower watt systems this is a big savings. Once you get up to 400W DIY doesnt really save you much.
