lol poor dude.

Take that back to the store. You can't just put one of those in any old light fixture. The thing the arrow is pointing at will also need a ballast with it to regulate the power it receives. At least to make it work safely. Let alone a 100 watt bulb is not enough power.

Most people on here will tell you to start with CFL's.

I once thought that you could put one of those bulbs in a fixture as well.

And just so you know. That fixture that the arrow is pointing at you can probably get at home depot. It will come in a box and have three wires bare. You must get an extension cord (3 prong-Grounded) and cut the end off it and wire it to the lighting wires that are exposed. It's kind of jerry rigging it and may be a fire hazard if done incorrectly or imporperly.

and this is IF it has a built in ballast. Which it probably will.

Some people would say maybe just a few cfl's. They are rather inexpensive and you could probably buy all the stuff for less than the hps fixture and also ur house wont burn down lol.

Wait for some other responses. Ask for a laundry list of things to pic up and whip it into shape. I can't really help you with that stuff. I don't do cfl or hps at all.

You can get 2 oz from a 100HPS its been done. I never tried to put one of those in a "regular" socket but I thought about it. The fixture you buy at the home improvement store will have everything you need except a power cord. As asryda said it is easy to wire. There are usually parts that will shock/electrocute you so look it up first.Dont handle any part of the thing when it is plugged in.And do not touch any part of it with liquid (sweat, water, etc.)the oil from your hand will leave a residue and can cause almost any High Intensity Discharge bulb to implode/explode.I can get 150HPS for less than $100 USD.The more you learn the safer your fun can be.good luck.let us know how it goes.
