Some of the hatred is well deserved, such is the expected attitude from those we have vanquished and those whose nefarious plans we have thwarted. Of course, mistakes have been made, I couldn't possibly argue otherwise. However, I personally believe the good we have done and continue to do, far outweighs the bad.
Much of the hatred stems from envy, this is also to be expected. We have it on display in our own country at this very moment.
Any of our allies that feel as strongly as you assert, are free to shake off the intolerable umbrella of our protection. Canada comes to mind, how long would they remain a sovereign nation if the USA made it known they were completely on their own and fair game. With valuable resources and a laughable military (made possible by their proximity to the USA), I would give them a couple of months, tops. I hear it from Canadians all the time, running down the USA, while the lifestyle they lead is also due in large part to our country and the protection we afford them.
What if we pulled a Ron Paul and closed all our bases abroad, withdrew all our forces and the revenue they generate. Would they like us more if we halted ALL foreign and humanitarian aid? Then how about we prohibit all private charitable organizations from giving medicine, food, health care, clothing... etc, outside the US? My, oh my, how they would love us then.
