29 Day Auto on 18/6 - Should flowering be quicker? Can I change light to 12/12

Hey all,

I've a 29 day old Auto flower (devilmatic...lowryder). I'm using CFL (1 x 200w, 2 x 20w) and growing by DWC (hydroponics / bubbler system). She's definitely female and has many points of where she's growing the pre flowering pistils (if that sounds correct). Here's a pic of one close up:

So I've read many places that an auto should stay on the same light schedule from start to finish. I'm wondering if it's possible to change it to 12/12 to encourage the flowering? It seems to have slowed down the flowering part yet the plant just keeps growing. I want it to concentrate on flowering and not vegging. Here's how she looks...

I know I don't have the most powerful lights so perhaps that's why there's a lot of stems/leaves. Any help is really appreciated

if you want her to flower i would put on 12/12. thats all i really did with mine, that and changed my lioghts to 2700K

I hear these things take a while to start showing. My last grow took three weeks to show budsites. I wouldn't go to 12/12 because of the simply lack of light it will be receiving.
And, as you said, that isn't much light which probably slows maturity. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If it takes 80 days instead of 60, so be it. Try not to follow time frames this early in growing; this has been a lesson I've learned in my first.

One thing to keep in mind is that the whole "65 days seed til harvest" is a bunch of BS. It's like the 7 week kushes you sometimes see. They're often more like 9 weeks for a quality product.

I had a Roadrunner #2 plant that took about 80 days to finish, but the end product was pretty amazing.

If your plant is putting out pistils, then flowering has started. Cutting back the light to 12/12 will simply give the plant less time to photosynthesize throughout the day, so personally I would just keep things how they are.

Patience is crucial with gardening.

Thanks for the quick replies. thesourman: You think 12/12 is good even thought its an auto on 18/6? Did you have an auto too and did it work out well?

scrottiemcboogerballs: Lol, I like the name. I'm changing the water and notes tomorrow, will give it the full Bloom nutes this week which will hopefully assist with the progress. Thanks for the sound advice too

Thanks LVTDY... I think I'll go with the patience route alright. I appreciate the advice!

Is this your very first grow, omni? Hydro is a bit ambitious if so. Kudos for getting it right.
Yeah complete n00b. Learning as I go really, RIU is being really good to me so far, loads of great advice and help. Do you use soil or hydro? Hydro is good for me so far regarding space and mess...it seems to be pretty tidy and clean to run in a small area, I think I'd need more room for soil. Still hope I make it to the end though.

I'm a complete newb on this one too. I'm also using soil. It's easy as pie man. I like the buffer that the soil provides. It's sort've like training wheels to me. Soil isn't too messy though and I really don't have any problems at all out of it. I use 5 gallon buckets and can keep 3-5 plants in my 4x2x8 closet pretty comfortably. I can't tell from the picture but how many plants are you growing right now?

Regarding Mryellow, I read a lot of places where Nirvana had problems with their NL autos autoing. I guess they had shittier genetics than usual in this particular line of seeds and most people on here seemed to just switch them like photoperiods and everything was good. So there is basis for this concern but in theory, you're right, there should be no need.

Read up on autos.

No need to switch to 12/12.
I have, that's why I said at the start "So I've read many places that an auto should stay on the same light schedule from start to finish"... but its always good to check with RIU anyhow... ;-)

Thanks for the advice though

Sounds cool.. Are you CFL or HPS or other? I'll check in to see if you've a journal or pics of them.. Yeah I'd like to try soil at some stage too...it sounds like a bit less work I guess with regards to feeding. It seems like I may be walking a narrow tightrope at times but she seems fairly hardy! I'm checking on the hydro system quite a bit, and need to top up the water / nutes a lot these days (pretty much daily) as she's drinking a lot. I hear with soil you just need to water ever few days which would be nice!

Just one on the go currently, I don't have the space at all for any more but if I move to a bigger place you never know ;-)
