Are these roots normal?

Just wondering if brownish roots were normal in a hydroponic system.

I am growing 5 plants in a DIY DWC/Aeroponic/Drip system, check out my sig for my grow journal if you want some detailed information.

- Air temp 85 on 70 off
- Res Temp ~ 75 - 80 (pretty high I know)

I am using "organic" nutes which could be the reason for the browning.
It hasnt effected my plants yet, they are actually doing very well even with the brownish roots. So just wondering if this is normal or should I start freakin out....

Do not worry about the color. And the abundance of all those lateral roots is a sign of very healthy roots. That said, there is a level beyond lateral roots that make nutrient uptake incredibly efficient. However, it does come at a price, as do all high performance methods. There are many elements to maxing lpa grows that most people fail to learn. So far you are doing well, but this is the easy part. It gets a lot more complicated during flower

Good to know thanks for the quick response, yeah I am well aware that it gets a lot more difficult during flower. But I just didnt want major root problems this early.

Get some H2O2 ,either 17.5%(40:1) grade 35%(80:1)grade or 50%(100:1) and use it every 4 days in the res at .This will fix the problem and if you dont the rootmass will rot.

Thanks Buds, I bought H202 just for this reason but I was reluctant to use it because I read it just kills off all the beneficial parts of the nutes I use. I am using Botanicare Pure Blend Pro and I heard that using H202 will just kill off the beneficial parts of the nutes. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Heard Aquashield by Botanicare helps prevent such problems, maybe ill go grab a bottle of that.

skimmed thread; I recc 5 off 1 min on. Your roots will tangle easy; so dont pull em out much. lift lid. spray pattern ok; your plants will develop tap roots when they sit on the bottom.
Your fish bones are nice, but too much water and you will get more spaghetti rather than horizontal growth.

Yes it will kill the good too; so only do it if roots are rotting. Good help prevent sudden sweeps and also supply n03 ammoniacal nitrogen I believe.

stay on top of ph if you have less than a 40 gal res, even then keep up.

ps. actually once those roots hit water they will practically stop growing sideways and just make a tap root.

Why don't you run H202 the last day or two before you change water? If it kills everything beneficial (unlikely), no problem, your changing water anyway. Root rot will kill your plants faster than a weakened nute solution will.

Medicinally you can take probiotics with antibiotics, the doctor will tell you to just stagger eight to twelve hours in between. Pretty much the same thing.

Thanks for the tip, I will do that a few days right before my next water change. I have 35% H202, how much should I put in a 15 gallon res?

Unless you are adding beneficial microbes, you probably do not have many. Instead of adding h202, just add bennies. They will displace disease and work in harmony with your nutes, but try to get your res temps down to 75.
