he is 16. he's going to the movies and the mall today. i gave him 54 dollars. i told him i will match whatever change he brings home. i also told him if he found something really nice at the mall and bought it that i would cover that as well. he thought about it for a minute and then said ... "this might be kinda hard, but i like it".

:weed::joint::joint:

he's gonna have to spend at least 15 at the movies, if he wants popcorn and a drink. then maybe another 10 for lunch. that leaves him almost 30 dollars to play with. i'm kinda excited to see how this goes.

I dont wanna say if your son was smart he would.... But I will rather say if your son thought like a businessman, he would make his friend pay for his ticket and food. Come home with the whole $54. Then he would have $108. Simply pay back his friend I guess $25 for the ticket, popcorn, and drinks. He would still have like $83. This is EXACTLY what I would do. But I have the mind of an entrepreneur. Gotta beat the system somehow you know.

BTW Im 18 majoring in business and hoping to go as far as getting my MBA.... powerful degree :)

I wonder if your son knows this is a one-time deal or if he thinks he's got a steady thing going here ... cn

<edit> Stride, the way i read it, he'd only have $54 in that scenario because fdd will match what he returns, as in pays back. ~shrug~ Bwdik! :bigjoint: cn

if he comes home with 20 dollars i will give him another 20. so he'd have 40.

stride is a genius. :clap:

well if he wants to all he really has to do is take the money and not go to the mall at all, and just come back and say he did go to the mall and get the other half of the money off you. Kids can be pretty resourceful. It's what I would have done at that age.

awesome!!

If I was your son, after you dropped me off at the mall, I would just hang out and cruise for a few hours. easy to do at a mall. then come home with the 54 bucks and tell you "double up dad!" lol ....... then I'd go to the movies in the evening with $108 bucks and a phat wallet :bigjoint:

why would you even do this? in either situation you lose money. only time my parents really ever gave me money for anything was prom, 20 bucks here and there just to get me out of the house, but if I wanted something I had to save for it.
much less beg and plead for a ride to where I wanted to go. Sometimes they'd give me some money and no ride.
Ill give them credit though, for the important things, they did take me places and pick me up, even if they bitched me out the whole way that I shouldnt depend on them to give me rides places.

probably preparing his son for the real world? see what kind of decision making skills his son has? that's what I'm guessing. I dunno. I think it's pretty cool though. I should do that with my son, lol

fdd's pretty much implying that either way, any decision he makes, he still benefits. dont give your kids something for nothing, they will never appreciate it.
