Do you think cops REALLY nose around these forums?

I'm sure the cops have better things to do than be on here... except for the ones that are growing themselves...

allsmilez stop getting so butthurt over the cop comments...
90% of cops wouldnt browse these forums.

why?

cause its too much work in something they are not interested in, when they can just out and profile people based on their appearances and check up on people they allready know.

some cops do go online, but they are mostly stoners themselves.

(or trying to make a name for themselves)
From time to time, I will pick a picture at random that someone posts and strip the XIFF data, and if it has personal ID info in it, I'll tell that person. Really freaks them out!!!
The narcotics departments PAY these guys to do this. You'd be surprised how much info can be gleaned here. Hydroponics shops are even more dangerous! All a cop has to do is sit there and record tag numbers. It has happened to the point of some shops bringing suit against the cops for targeting their customers!!! They don't need probable cause to take down your tag number, find out who you are, then put you under the microscope. Probable cause can then be created by any number of scenarios.

Have you actually heard of people on here thave had riu posts and threads used against them? That's a little scarey....

It would take a court order to get posts and info from RIU, and I doubt they'd go that far. But any ISP has all the pertinent info on what URLs are visited by an individual, and they will cooperate with LEO. Just use common sense, don't use a GPS capable camera or phone to take and post pics.
Just don't think that they aren't after the small fish. Small fish are bait for the trophy fish.

Yes there are cops here, there are Various military organizations, DEA, CCIS, homeland, RCMP and many others. This is a public forum that attracts alot of attention. Now whether their going to trace your IP, subpoena your records from your ISP and monitor your posts until enough evidence is gathered against you is another question.

People seem to forget there's a pointless war on drugs currently, it's no less damaging than any other war. There are lives lost, incarcerations and billions of dollars wasted.....but don't forget, they do have billions to waste as long as the war continues.

If I was in charge of getting narcotics off the street in a new way (innovation is keystone in policing) I would look at new media, which in this case is the internet (newest mass media available). RIU isn't hard to find and by extrapolation I have to believe that I would be foolish to think this forum isn't monitored by a single to many agencies.

That seriously takes 5 minutes on a phone and a follow up 1/2 hour with the justice. Never kid yourself that there are corners of the internet that a person can hide in and once seen cannot be unseen.

I was involved with an Internet scam a while back and met with two cops. One introduced as being with the internet division, from what I grasped they have a division strictly monitoring internet crime.Maybe child pornography, terrorism and other more serious things take most of there time. But they might have some people looking into here you never know. These guys are serious computer tecks and they can do more than you think,They are not stupid cops.

Like I said, there is no point in monitoring online forums. There are bigger forums than this that are out there that they would be on. There very well could be someone watching everything we do, but there is no way for them to do anything without alerting SOMEONE and once that happens, everyone knows.

If the police were to say, get a warrant to search the server for information, the Admins would eventually know of it and warn the users. There is NOTHING they can do except watch what we say. Take it from someone who has had multiple botnets in the millions of computers (I've even had .gov computers), and was a co-founder of a warez IRC channel that was based around hacking computers to spread warez. You have to be pretty damn unlucky or stupid to get capped from a forum.

Well said.

Maybe they are watching us, but REALLY. Does anyone here HONESTLY expect me to believe that they are going to track me down over a few plants? I mean, COME ON. I don't bother anyone. I stay to myself. I don't support crime. Just don't see how they could justify it.

IMHO I don't see why they would. IMHO it seems like it would be too time consuming for em. BESIDES! I'm not cooking up crack or meth.
Not supporting terrorism gangs or violence. Hell, I'm working AGAINST all those bad people! Now I don't have to buy pot that may come from bad people. I grow my own and NOT in large quantities.

What do y'all think?
no cops dont get into these forums. think about it. how many different weed forums are out there? they would have to search through every thread to try and get detailed information or pictures on someone to come up with enough for a warrant. most places marijuanna is decriminilized and up to like 10 plants is a civil offense. (slap on wrist go home) too much man power would be needed, obviously dont post pics of your mail or name or anything that will point you out but people arent stupid (lol yes they are ><) anyways, i doubt they hang around here.

and as far as tracking IP adresses that is just too time consuming to process of elimintaion IP adresses. Even if they could furnish a name and # from IP adresses, they...well just dont care about small time growers.

if your grow is a felony, well dont post it on the interwebz lol

They need a warrant on the ISP to get your information from them. An IP is just a number trackable to the state/province you're in and sometimes city. Beyond that it means nothing and is untraceable by anyone. If your IP changes regularly, I'm pretty sure but not certain that the ISP can't even keep track of it for too long of a time either if at all.

It's just too much work to bust some guy/girl growing a few plants for him and his friends. I would say the vast majority of people on growing forums don't grow enough to make it worth their while to trace you down. It would just cost too much money to raid someone with 1 to 30 plants

they use things like whats in the background, they try to track the kid down and talk to them/their parents, they look at when the image/video was made, just anything obvious that would tell where it could have happened. For example, most hotels that are the same company look the same, so its easy to figure out where it happened just by looking at the beds etc. If it was in asia, the background would look different to somewhere in north america.

Sadly, its also VERY hard to catch pedos too. A lot of pedos used the swirl technique, but those morons didn't realize that cops ALSO used photoshop and could do the opposite of the swirl to reveal the person. But then they busted that guy, Mr Swirl or what ever, and now nobody does it. Its hard to get caught at ANYTHING online. It does happen, but like I said you have to be unlucky or stupid to get caught.

A common way of getting busted is when the computer stops working, then you send it in to like geek squad and they snoop through your shit and find it. Legally they have to call the cops if they find illegal things on the computer. I've heard of several people being busted this way. But there are probably ways that the police keep fairly secret.

i doubt it. there is no real evidence to be found here... yea you post a picture but there is no proof its yours it could just be a pic from the internet.

I doubt any information found here would be allowed in the courts.

I know what you mean... If my computer crashes and I can't fix it, I smash the hard drive into particles and most of the other components, all except the case and the fan...lol...
