High Times Cannabis Cup raided!

The report i linked states that arrests are not happening but there are anecdotal reports that Dutch police may be issuing summons for possession of more than 5 grams. It's pretty much believed that the Cannabis Cup competition is either rigged or subject to vote stuffing but this may be the end of an era in Holland.

The odd thing to me is that, other than the coffee shops, Holland is not the most cannabis-friendly nation in Europe anymore. Portugal has decriminalized all drugs (and reduced drug use while saving a ton of money on law enforcement) and Spain has legalized possession and cultivation of cannabis and generally doesn't enforce laws prohibiting sales and public consumption. A number of Eastern European countries have liberal cannabis laws.

Really seems to me that Holland is shooting itself in the foot. The Cup will go to Spain and Amsterdam will lose significant tourist dollars in a time of the year when tourism is negligible.

Although I am a newbie about all of this, I do read and watch the news quite a lot ... In your opinion, what value in US Dollars do you think that Amsterdam will loose in tourist dollars with losing the CCup to Spain? One would think that with all of the termoil with the economy (both US and Euro), one country would certainly try to prevent something like this from happening.

An old addage that I use and cherish is " I would rather have a slice of pie, than no pie at all".

I really have no idea what the economic impact of moving the Cup would have on Holland. I based my statement on a suspicion that November is a crappy tourist month pretty much everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere.

And the winner of the Cannabis Cup 2011 is.... Barney's. Big surprise there. The winning strain is called Liberty Haze. Can't find any info on the genetics, but rumor has it that it's a Super Silver Haze descendant. Will be interesting to see if the initial grow reports are as bad for Liberty Haze as they were for Tangerine Dream.

Reserva Privada seems to have done the best out of the American breeders winning the Indica Cup for Kosher Kush and sharing the Hybrid Cup with DNA Genetics with something called Holy Grail Kush. Cali Connection did fairly well, taking a second place trophy in the Hybrid category for Deadhead OG (a strain i like a great deal) and third place in the Indica category for their Tahoe OG, which i find interesting as the general consensus seems to be that Reserva Privada's Tahoe OG is far superior - maybe they didn't enter it?

The winner i found most interesting was in the Sativa category. The category was taken by something known as Moonshine Haze by a company i've never heard of - Rare Dankness Seeds. Some quick Google-fu reveals they are a seed company out of Denver. I tried to find a seed bank shipping their gear in case anyone was interested but was unsuccessful.

i wonder if that moonshine haze has any connection to mosca's moonshine collection? the did a release a little while ago, that was the old time moonshine x ______ and i had never heard of the moonshine genetic line before mosca, I have never heard of rare darkness before..

kinda confirms my thoughts, to me anyways. they collect other breeders stock and offer it to the industry people in the way of male stock.. interesting angle on the market

This seems to be the business plan of many North American breeders - find a stud male or two (which is harder than it would seem) and repeatedly use that male for different crosses. Kingdom Organic Seeds (The Rev from Skunk Mag's seed company) bases a large chunk of their seed stock off one Deep Chunk male would be the best known example of this practice.
