Newbs

I have been reading quite a few posts in the last couple days and one thing I noticed is that there are tons and tons of posts where people are being called newbs and ragged on most the time simply because they ask a question that may or may not be common knowledge or sense. I do not know anyone who popped out of their mother growing plants. Every single elite grower posting on these forums was a complete newb at some point in their life so why is so much bullshit talked about newbies and first timers?

Just Sayin...

I agree I try to show respect as much as possible, but what you may not understand is that there many times stickey that answer every q they have but most are to lazy to read what's right there they want someone to tell them exactly how. Another big problem is when the answer they are after has already been answered many times by multiple people and they still keep questioning it. Why?? Go read pretty simple if you ask me, I learned on my own nobody told me how or why or what I just put in some work, did a lot of research and kept my head up. Happy growing to you bro

I am a first time grower but have done tons of research. That doesn't compare to experience though so I come here for help sometimes and even on occasion I am able to help someone else. There are a bunch of assholes here, but there are also a bunch of helpful experts that are friendly and knowledgeable. The best thing is usually you can recognize an asshole fairly quick, they don't hide it well. Once you have recognized someone is an asshole you just ignore them and wait for someone that doesn't have a stuck up their ass to help you. The good ones are here to. Happy growing.

If you are new to something, society has led us to class this as being a noob or newb in this field. What is insulting about this? Newb simply means beginner, if someone starts growing their first plant, is it insulting for me to call someone a beginner while adressing them and giving them advice

"as a newb, i would advise against..."
"as a beginner i would advise against..."

If this is insulting to you then oh dear.

And i have noticed that people get ragged on when there is generally a good reason for it, you certainly get the grumpy boots here and there, but a lot of "negativity" is brought on by the "newbs" actions, or lazy half arsed lack of actions, than because he's a newb.

Who knows :D

I agree, you see a of questions that could be answered by doing research. However, some people don't learn well that way or they may have read up on a subject and still don't fully understand. If I know an answer I will give it in the nicest way I can every time. Thats me.

I am polite but a lot of the questions are answered in the sticky post that we advise newcomers to read before posting questions.

I wasnt talking about ragging on someone who deserves it, I was talking about people who rag on someone just because they ask an amateur question or something like that. Calling someone a beginner is just calling it like it is, of course there is nothing wrong with that, I never implied there was. What I was talking about is how people who are new to the scene can sometimes get treated by people who consider themselves pros.

There you have it.

I moaned last week about every other question being 'yellow leaves', I asked nicely for folk to search before you post and got ragged myself, for being an arse. If you do a title search for 'yellowing leaves', there are over 100 threads and I am sure there are many more using different search parameters. I understand that many of these threads may be irrelavent to an individual case and searching may be long and laborious but whilst reading these threads you are also developing your knowledge in other areas.

Maybe the newbs (beginners) should look after the newb section and answer the repetative same old, same old questions.

The bottom line...... expect to be ragged if you come here thinking everything is gonna be handed to you on a plate with no DD from yourself. I am sure even the newbs laugh when a post appears saying, "I just started 4 seeds, when do i water them and how much weed will I get". :wall:

Personally, I love newbs, especially on toast with a bit of brown sauce.

I agree with the OP for the most part. I try to be as helpful as possible and the only time I refer a newb to go read is when I get a "Ok planning my first grow. Where do I start.". At least meet us half way and read something before asking questions.

i agree with bigv1976 ... if someone shows they are prepaired to try, a little help is sometimes all it takes ..... but noone should expect it all spoon fed.
