Ski Train - 303 Seeds by BudPatch

Hey Budpatch - she is looking frosty and tasty!

I wondered how receptive the MMCs would be to selling seeds. Too bad Centennial screwed it up for you. They seem more focused on marketing than product quality.

I'm dropping my Shooting Stars in the water today to get them going. Look for a journal to start in a week or two...

Later,
Medshed
I don't think they screwed anything up for us, just made the barrier to entry at some of these centers a little higher. The marketing team just did up the first ad for next months Kush, so we should get a little more exposure from that.

Pumped to see your SS grow! There are two dominant genotypes in that cross. I know you're hoping for a sleep-aid so look for the geno that is slow and squatty to get the most of the ambien mom. The other main geno veg's fast, stretches a bit like the Ski Train and will have a bit more of the sativa influence.

Thanks for the tip BP! That kind of info is really helpful. I've often thought it would be wise for breeders to profile the variation in their strains, and maybe put some pics of them at different growth stages on their website so growers know what to look for.

I dropped 3 of the SS and 3 Kali Mist in Rapid Rooters this morning. Should be interesting with those two strains going side by side. I'll be looking for that short fat SS hussy to take to bed with me. Can't wait to run some SS in SS (supersoil)!

Here is week 5.5. Filling in and getting even more frosty, the scents are amazing citrus wreck and a kind of cherry/blackberry aroma that I can't quite put my finger on. Really unique and different than the F1 line grown by Union. One of the reasons I like the F2 journey is the terrific amount of parental variation!

6.5 weeks here, boy does time fly! She is really filling in now, and starting to turn a bit. Super potent smell of citrus and blackberry...really neat stuff. Calyxes are starting to dread a bit, which is a trait of the mom. Nice dense growth, the lower buds that don't get much light are also nicely formed. I expect buds from this genotype to be quite a bit denser than the mom, which leaned heavy on the sativa dominant Arcata TW.

7.5 Weeks here and we're heading towards the finish line. Super frosty and the calyxes are swelling up nicely. Great terpene profile now too...lemon blackberry goodness. I can almost smell the hash I'm going to make from this!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ok, here we are at 58 days...pretty much done here, but I'm going to go to 60 just for kicks. I harvest in the dark, so this is the last you'll see of her before she goes to processing. A very interesting chemical superglue astringent type scent has developed in the final days. I can still smell the fruits, but the first thing that hits my nose now is something unique and very interesting.

I generally use a very light nutrient regimen for first time runs and ended up with a few deficiencies at the end here. In the future I'll hit this one harder with the guano tea, and will add additional calcium and magnesium as well. Buds are nice and dense, much denser than the original Ski Train mom, and the stretch is far less. This was a very easy grow, little effort on my part for a good return. This girl pretty much grew herself.

Overall I am very happy with the results from germinating 2 seeds, and will be keeping this genotype around for further testing.:joint:

Look for a smoke report soon!

Yeah BP! That train came out the West Portal of the Moffat tunnel covered in fresh powder and ready to rip! I can't wait for the smoke report.

Well put sir, well put.

Wow, 303 looks legit!
Oh yes...

SMOKE REPORT:
Cure: 30 days in glass jar
Smoking Tool: Double Chamber Governmint glass on glass with diffuser stem
Ignition: BeeLine wick
Preliminary ramble:Wow, I have to say that I took my first hit prior to taking the pics of the nugs and I still haven't taken a second hit yet and its 20 min later and the high is still coming on in nice rolling waves. Very much a mix of head and body, but significant head "hug" that feels really relaxing, but I'm not drowsy yet. I just finished about 3 hours of desk work which includes staring endlessly at huge LED monitors, typing, and other desk type things. I have some slight carpel tunnel like symptoms in my mouse hand from too much work on the keyboard, mouse, guitar, etc. I also have some relatively serious back issues and end up with sore neck and shoulders often.
Immediately after taking the first hit I felt relief from the neck and shoulder tension. It could have been because I was concentrating on the intense head rush and really smooth citrus arcata aftertaste, but good tension release almost immediately. I should also mention that it is late at night, and I've been working my second job, so my eyes are fatigued. I noticed my eye fatigue go away almost immediately as well, indicating that this could be a good remedy for ocular issues like glaucoma.

The Bud: Looks good, nice resin coverage and this ended up more dense than the original cut, but not so dense as the Paki Chitral, so still heavier on the trainwreck for this F2, but the growth pattern was closer to the Kush. Pre crumble it smells a little of the astringent glue that I noted late in the flowering cycle, but as soon as you break the bud open....amazing citrus arcata and some berry as well. Very fragrant when broken up in the grinder, but not something like Skunk or OG where it will head upstairs and let everyone within a 1000 ft know you are about to smoke.

The Smoke: Smooth on the inhale, and not too expansive. The expansion seems to hit your lungs after you've exhaled and taken your first breath of air. That's when the choke will hit you, if it does at all. Smooth earthy almost chocolate on the inhale, and all citrus and berry on the exhale, with a taste of the astringent as the berry fades. Great stuff...not as strong of a citrus-lemonene note as the mom, but so much more complex with more of the Paki Chitral terpenes coming out. I'm a sucker for the Ski Train mom, which everyone should get a chance to try once it hits the centers. But this F2 genotype is a real treat as well, something completely different than anything else around right now.

The High: Its been 45 minutes now, and I've moved on to hit two. I've been smoking this for about a week now, and notice that I can focus really well and generally don't have any problems completing a task after I get adjusted to the immense head rush and flow of mental energy. I typically consume 4+ grams of cannabis daily, so my tolerance level is relatively high. I also tend to have a giant amount of variety in my typical smoking day. I find that the Ski Train cuts right through anything else you've smoked, or eaten for that matter. Its properties are effective even when others are present. I can use this anytime, but find that it is so strong right off the bat that I will usually wait until after my primary tasks are completed so I can enjoy the rush without trying to focus on something. After it settles in, it is perfectly manageable, and has a nice happy sativa high with a good analgesic effect. Also, I'll be heading off to bed shortly, and won't have any problems settling in to a nice nights sleep, so it isn't something that will keep me up. The Ski Train mom can keep me up...
Overall Potency: On my scale (1-10), and I'm snobbish, this gets an 8.5 for head and a 6 for body.
Overall Taste: Again, I'm a downright hater on even some of the best grown stuff out there, this gets a 7.5.

In summary, I popped two seeds, got two females, gave one away and ended up with what is a pretty bad ass unique genotype. Easy to grow, great smoke, great potency, met my medical expectations and exceeded them in some aspects. I wonder what I'll find when I pop the other beans in the pack! Surefire goodness it seems...

Great report BP! Sounds like she would make really good edibles. I've found the strains with a strong onset and clean after rush are really good for edibles because the onset gets smoothed out and then you are in the happy zone for a long time.

I am a part of this community to become a better grower. I have been growing for 10 years and I love that I can learn something from you. Thanks man. Took a look at the 303 site, and I'm curious about clones. Seeds are great, but I prefer clones. Are there any shops that sell them? I took note of the dispensaries that have your seeds, do they also have clones from time to time?

Thank you,
Neb

Glad to be of service...I'm a learner for life, and a teacher by accident. Trying to get better at the teaching part!

We are working on a clone project that will get premium 303 selected cuts of our gear to patients through our retailers. Right now we are in the selection process and are hoping to have this program up and running by Spring of 2012. At that point we should have a better network of vendors, and hopefully can spread some of these cuts far and wide! The facebook and twitter pages will give you the most up to date info, so if you're not a fan, check it out.
