yes. everything is accelerating away from each other... example take a sphere of balls the inner balls would just be starting to accelerate . the next level up would be traveling faster because they have had a longer time to accelerate & the same thing to the layer above them.

The inner balls will never catch up to the 2nd lvl because the speed at which they are traveling is exponentially less. so as time goes on forever the distance goes to infinity. the same with 2nd & 3rd lvl.

Well, don't we feel the current as the one way arrow of entropy? We get older, others are younger. It's just an analogy, btw. A thought puzzle. A Kundun, in Buddist terms. Space, I note, is considered to be filling in. That seems to fit.

EDIT: Just thought of this. The picture there, show space being displaced. To where is
it displaced? Into what? There is the motion. All matter creates a kind of bow wake
against the Now. We ride a matter-energy-space-time (MEST) organism that also experiences the bow wake of displacing matter against the gi-normous NOW.

The apparent displacement is a spurious consequence of the representation. Space is depicted as flat, 2D instead of 3D, so the third dimension can display gravitational potential. There is nothing "over/under" the grid plane being displaced ... cn

Space was dragged upon what? What is the friction component?

So, despite our inability to visualize it space is being manipulated into depressions around masses and can even take a wave form. Even a deep tidal wave displaces in air at the surface due to the in-compressibility, right?

If black holes twist space and mass dents it, etc, what is the other dimension of the motion there? And if space can actually be expanding at an accelerating rate, it can be said to be filling in, perhaps.

Agree about metric drag.
As for space "filling in", I don't really see it like that. I get a more internally-consistent mental image when I see space as "stretching". But it's imperfect; that doesn't account for the fact that our yardsticks are not stretching in proportion. There 's a breakdown of isotropy: small structures (up to galaxies) don't stretch, but larger things (those filaments in the "foamy matter distribution" models of really large swaths of space) seem to. cn

Then this may mean that 18 billion years is not the age of the universe but merely the life cycle of photons. The microwave background is the last bit of tired light we can see, not the early universe.

Space is becoming less dense? That's even more useful to think about. What force that is stretching it? Dark Energy. I imagined it like NASA's skin of the ballon type stretch, which implies a 5th order filling behind the blast front, after 3 dimentions + Time, which is the blast front. ie, the universe.

In this view the center of the universe doesn't exist in our timespace. However, we have no idea how thick this MEST wave is, and for all we know we may simply be looking at a horizon of some kind. A 3 degree K remnant of something out of our view. No one can say the radius or the thickness of the expanding, accelerating "skin."

This is all relative of course, and has nothing to do with Now, except the thought puzzle. Cheers.
