Presidential Hopeful Gingrich Calls Medical Marijuana A 'Joke'

Newt is correct ... Medical marijuana IS a joke. Well, at least here in California its been turned into a joke.

I recognize the need of some folks to use pot for a variety of medical uses. Some forms of chronic pain, chemo reactions, glaucoma and uses like that. But everyone on this forum that lives in California knows that all one has to do is find a "pot doctor," pay the money, and you will be given your letter and/or card. I mean, if one were to tell one of these doctors that you want pot to cure hangnails, you'd be given the approval.

Anyone been to Venice Beach? Every other storefront is a business for a pot doctor. Then, every other door to that is a pot dispensary.

So, I stand by by assertion that medical marijuana is a joke. It is nothing more than legalization by proxy. But again, I restate, there are plenty of folks who find relief from ingesting pot ... including myself.

Would you rather the good ole' days, that still exists in some states, where you go to jail for years because of a few milligrams of resin? $40 for the first year and $35 each year after for renewal is cheap, considering the alternative.

Yes lets do that, and legalize it. So that is exactly why I disagree with Newt. Newt doesn't want to legalize it, he wants to get rid of it and charge harsher sentences and in some cases even the death sentence for marijuana. This is why I FIRMLY disagree with newt on this. I heard of another plan in the works. Make it legal but charge a flat tax no matter if you grow or buy. Let's say they charge a $100 per ounce tax, on top of sales tax. So they could assume each small plant is 2 oz. Just like anyone else who's self employed, you pay what the government thinks you'll pay up front. They could make you pay whether you lose the crops too. This will force big weed, like big tobacco, into the game. Where will the rare strains like I use, Blue Dream, come from? I see this causing only one Kush and one Haze strain. This already happens with distilled liquor. The license is so expensive only those like Jim Bean make it. I see strains like mine going away. The won't care nearly 99% of the strains cause me to trip. It'll be like Starbucks and no one will give a shit about those who need it. People will consider weed as medicine a joke for real, no different than alcohol. I'd be screwed since I couldn't afford even $100 an ounce plus grow expense, or say $150 ounce with tax included, for shit weed.

Unless you legalize and consider it the same as a farmer's market tomato, the consequences could be worse than it is now.

Why not decriminalize like Portugal does?

Why not just legalize it and espouse the words of liberty: It is none of government's business what the citizens smoke, snort or inject, as long as the rights of another aren't violated in the process.

Government does not belong in the business of regulating or taxing pot. Its a freakin' plant, fer crying out loud! Its been used for medical purposes for over 5000 years.

The weed needs to be let free ... and not subject to the will of government, or the sham of "medical" marijuana. You telling me I need a letter to show to a police officer? Yeah right ... like I need a letter to show him when I carry aspirin?

Thats why it should be Legal but not dispensaries
marijuana Dispensaries have nothing to do with medical Marijuana
They just dress up Pot selling as a pharmacy

The people of California should of just decriminalized growing and Possessing to a 1 dollar fine

The feds aint gonna go after 500000 people growing and possessing it. And a dollar fine sure aint gonna motivate Cops to go and make busts

That's the only thing you've said that makes any sense. Medical weed is just an experiment to see if the dispensary model where thousands of pot heads grow weed for $150 a zip and sell to dispensaries, who then sell it for $300-$400. They know it works. Now the DEA is busting the small ones, so those like Harborside become the Post Office "privately" owned state store of weed. Utah already does it with alcohol. The dispensary across the street closed because too many were coming in over 100 people a day. Selling, trading bud and clones. It got a letter stating it was a for profit. That's the real joke.
