How long does an inline fan/filter take to rid the smell?

How long should a carbon filter/inline fan take to rid the house/room of the stank? I have no concerns on the actual growing area and what's in the air...the fan/filter combo would control a much larger grow area than just the two plants I've got going in a tight space. I'm more concerned about the smell that has seeped into areas of the house around the grow area.

I'm now wishing I'd have ordered this thing weeks ago. It should be here tomorrow or the next day. Once I've got it going, do you think the smells around the grow area will go away or can those smells saturate carpet, walls, etc. and stay there for a long while?

Thanks for any info for this total newbie. I had no idea the smell would permeate like that on such a small grow that I started more out of curiosity than anything.

well eliminate the odor in the grow area imediatly, but you will need to air out your living space. your best bet is to get a spray called ozium works wonders

go to diy sub forum of general growing forum plenty of easy diy carbon filters there

if u got up early u could have it running by lunch time

Its not cig smoke, it will go away, but its gonna take a while. Make sure that your room has a negative pressure and no leaks in the line past the filter.

I'm not sure necessarily what that all means, but here's what I'm planning to do thus far. Please tell me if I'm going about it wrong. The fan/filter will be here tomorrow. Right now I'm venting to/from the crawl space through the floor. I've got a computer fan on the intake and an identical fan going out. I planned to suspend the fan/filter with rubber bike tubes and have it do its business in the contained area of the grow room to scrub the air while the intake/outtake fans in the floor take care of circulating the air in the grow area. Thanks for the replies.

Oh yeah...forgot to mention I plan to have the fan sucking air in from the filter and then blow it out "fresh." Is this what you meant by passive intake? Or do you mean no intake fan...just let the outtake fan pull in fresh air so it creates a "suck" for the fresh intake air?

it means u seal up room except for a intake vent with no fan but have a fan at top suck air out creates a suction like in a house when ac comes on and sucks a door closed when u close it

Yes this is what i meant. The way i do it is have my filter on my exhaust fan, which exhausts into the crawlspace (6" ducting). Air is then drawn in through 3 6" holes i have on the other side, simply by the fan on the exhaust lowering the pressure in the room (negative pressure) and drawing fresh (cool) air in.
The only issue with your way is that the fans are probably the same size, so not creating a negative pressure. What would happen if you removed the intake fan? You will have created a negative pressure in the tent, and a positive one in the crawlspace, should flow air. However you are now venting air that has not been filtered immediately before exiting, which is a possible smell leak. 2 ways to fix, 1st just put the fan filter combo right by the exhaust vent, blowing towards it. Or redesign for the carbon filter fan combo to be your new exhaust into the crawlspace, and now you really don't need that intake, but you have changed everything enough your temps may drop significantly.
You have most likely ordered the fan filter combo already, but if you intend to "scrub" with it, running it open in the room, not as an exhaust, you can typically run more air through it than it is rated (i believe can filter is the only one that has 2 ratings on it though, one for filter one for scrub. Just a thought.

Yeah anything more than the cracks around the door is too much, tape caulk whatever it takes, luckily its really easy, turn off the lights outside the room, turn the lights in the room on, now go around the outside of the room, if you see light you need to address it.
Also you should have an air filter on your intake, passive or active.

awesome advice thats best way to tell where u need to seal it up
it will look like a christmas tree like mine did lol
