New and Confused

Hi, this is my first grow. Through trial and error I have three plants now. Planty (mother) PC1 (Planty Clone 1) which flourished and PC2 (Planty Clone 2) which I tried to make a low rider but had to flower before it was ready considering the lack of grow room. I have feminized Yumbolt 47 (cross between Yumbolt and AK47) I used miracle grow seedling starter fertilizer. I did at one point feed it some powdered miracle grow feed crap but I quit after I noticed some burning of the fan leaves. I don't know whether or not it was due to too much heat from the second light I use upstairs to keep planty warm. I purchased 2 Lamp 4 Foot T5 High Output Fluorescent Fixture which produces 10,000 lumens. I ghetto rigged a C02 system late using a 2 liter/ yeast and sugar but I don't know how effective it was.

I'm about three or four weeks into flowering and I have questions. I've read so much on the internet and I feel as if I'm still missing information on when to harvest. I have a magnefying glass but I feel like it's not showing me the main picture. Where exactly am I supposed to be looking at?

Brown receding pistils, for me. I know what you mean about magnifying glasses, the trichomes were very pretty but i never caught sight of an amber one, they were all cloudy (and the plant looked "different" in texture cos of this near harvest time, hard to explain in words though!) so pistills and the general plumping up of the bud, that's what i go by.
Three or four weeks into flowering, there's a lot more growth and development yet :) sit tight :peace:

Ditch the CO2, It's debatable IMHO on the effectiveness, and is useless unless you have a sealed room anyway. Get the lights closer, and when feeding MG, do so ONLY at 1/4 strength, 1/2 strength MAX. Otherwise, they look good!

Everything your "friends" tell you about growing pot, forget it!! Even here you're gonna have to sort thru a whole lot of sewage to get to the diamonds.

use your scope, you want to be looking at the trichomes, the frost on your plants are trichomes. They look like a stalk with a blob on the end. If you look now they should be clear in appearance, you want them to be cloudy.

A hint, don't be looking every 5 mins, you will rupture ya trichs which is essentially what melts your brain cells. Just google trichomes and get a better idea.

Pretty much all experienced growers advise to stay away from Miracle Grow products...Try Canna if you are in Europe, of Foxfarm if in the States. Let your plant flower for at least 8 weeks, and with your strain, more like 9-10. When the majority of the trichomes (little shiny crystal things) are opaque white, your plant is at peak potency. If you want a lighter head high, harvest when there is almost no orange trichomes (the orange color is the broken down THC). For stonier weed that gives a nice body buzz, harvest when about 25%-50% of the trichomes are orange. For most strains that flower in 8 weeks, giving an extra week of flowering time brings out the true flavor and scent of the cannabis.

When you harvest, trim as soon as possible, or the leaves will get floppy and be difficult to trim. Place your buds in a cool, dark, dry place with some (but not too much) air circulation. The idea is to dry them as slowly as possible without getting them mouldy. This preserves the volatile terpenes, which are responsible for the fragrant smell of the cannabis. When the stems are dry enough that they snap when you bend them, place your buds in a large glass jar that seals well. This is called curing. Pack them as loosely as possible. Check for mould the next day, and let the moist air out. Do this for about 3 or 4 days, then just keep it closed. Your cannabis will be significantly better after curing (both smell, smoothness and potency). IMO, if you don't cure your buds, you pretty much wasted 5 months of your life growing them...

Ignore this mans advise at your own peril. It's hard enough letting your plants grow out fully and not chopping for a taster. Waiting for curing is hell, but worth every second. Every week curing (if done right), your bud will taste, smell and smoke better.

BE WARNED.

I think claiming that it's a waste of five months is a bit extreme. I've had bud that tasted absolutely AMAZING and got me blitzed with no cure, just a dry. Don't get me wrong, curing DOES make a world of difference but it's a bit much to say it's a waste of 5 months if you don't cure. Just ignorant imo.

Should I be giving her nutes while flowering? Am I too late? And when drying, I want to hang in a dark place with air flow to prevent mold, right? What is the best temperature?

yes you should be giving her nutes while flowering..and when you hang in a dark place keep a fan going to circulate air, but do not point the fan directly at the buds..and the temp can be anywhere from 60-70, ive read about people drying at 80...but thats a bit high for my tastes..

While experienced growers may ADVISE to stay away, Miracle Gro can be and has been used to grow perfectly acceptable grows. There are WAY too many threads on this site alone that prove it can be done and done well. You have to remember that these guys asking these questions are NEWBs and are just learning. There is nothing easier than Miracle Gro to learn with. If Miracle Gro sucked as bad as everyone on these forums thinks they wouldn't be the number 1 fertilizer in the Botanical world. I could well state the same thing about FoxFarm, as more often than not I read threads with people having trouble with that as well, especially their soils.
MG just has to be used properly. When using MG, start out at 1/4 strength, and build up to no more than 1/2 strength. It's a perfectly good nutrient for the beginner. Beginners need to focus on just keeping them alive at first. The biggest hazard to that is all the BS conflicting advise they get from other newbs who post what they read, not what they know to be fact based on first hand experience.
Once a newb gets his feet under him/her, THEN start to refine the process, until then just keep things simple and don't go over engineering botany. That's all this is, simple Biology and Botany, and MJ is just a plant, and a weed at that. It can thrive in the worst of conditions.

And while you can just dry and smoke your crop as was stated, the end result will be absolute crap compared to a slow dry and long cure. You've gone this far, why settle for less than the best you can get? If you're gonna do this do it RIGHT!!! You wont regret it, I promise you!

This guys an idiot, Never use miracle grow. You want to be able to add your own nutes, and flush when needed. Nubs use miracle grow

i know people that have had good success with miracle grow(meaning the BUD LOOKED GOOD), Though they had issues flushing the plant.

If you want good quality tasting weed. Get organic soil , miracle grow is garbage. I wouldnt even use that shit on my veggies
