I am new here. I am 8 weeks into flowering an indoor LED cramped cold grow. I seem to be breaking all the "rules". For the doubters, these LED lights are way cheap on the electricity and seem to do pretty well. My past was larger indoor grows using big electricity sucking lights with vents and hydro, humidifiers, etc ad nasum.

I love the way the plants look under LED. Very trippy looking. Also I also am using LED for my veg. I did an experiment with some seedlings. 3 under a 50w blue LED and about 8 under 400w mh. The LED plants grew a lot faster and are now almost twice as big.

YOu have the unique and rare experience of comparing LED directly to HID. You're saying the LED is equal to the HID?

I too plan on using a Blackdog LED for my first grow... Just havent decided soil or hydro...I keep hearing that Ill have too many issues with hydro...

Yeah, but in soil if you make a mistake, it's harder to fix. Hydro moves faster, so if you make a mistake it shows up right away and you can fix it right away.

So many conflicting answers...Kinda confuses things for a noob like me...Im completly fascinated with DWC and Bubble buckets...But I keep hearing that soil is more forgiving

Soil is more forgiving in certain ways and hydro is more forgiving in certain ways.

While it's true that you have to stay on top of shit in hydro, I feel that mistakes are easier to correct because indicators show up faster... and so remedies take effect faster. That's how hydro is easier.

In soil, it moves at a slower pace so much more of the process is just sitting back and observing. A lot of soil noobs make the mistake of putting too much shit in the medium, trying to do too much, not fully aware that much of it is a sit and wait process. So they end up overnuting or ph whacking and it results in nutrient lockout that's a bitch and a half to fix.

soil is more forgiving in the sense that everything happens at a slower rate. i personally love playing in the dirt, and would never do hydro out of personal preference. my bestest growing buddy only grows in Hydro, and believe me when i say we have had our share of colorful conversations. the point is, he's never grown in dirt. he did A LOT of reading and asking questions, and then learned by experience and trial and error. so it's surely possible for a noob to learn and be successful with a hydro set up.

really you need to go with what u think is more practical for what you want to do, and you need to read up on both to see which one trips your trigger.

I had the LED sitting right on top of them. Only 50w so it's not hot. I originally got it to do clones but it works for seedlings too. I should have got a bigger one to cover more area.

Ive had a lot of people tell me a lot of bad things about hydro, so i made my own soil mixture of 20% perlite 20% vermiculite and 60% organic soil, im also feeding them general 10-15-10 plant food.
this is also my first grow so tell me how things go
