I was testing the 420Grow Systems http://420growsystem.com/about.php my Durbans yielded 2x what I got from the autopots, they couldn't compete with those #s. I hear ya on the convenience thing though.

for the mods, did you cut out sections of the sidewall and line the inside with material? I was talking to Trueno about just this thing a couple weeks back to (as you say) see if you could get the best of both worlds.

That 420 system looks similar to the Luwasa pots I use for my houseplants. I use hydroton for media with those. They are definitely not high performance but I don't really want that with house plants anyway.

You're right about the Autopot mods. I drilled 1.75 inch holes through the pots and then used 5 gallon Roots fabric pots as a liner. You could make them cheaper with landscaping fabric but I was in a hurry and didn't wanna deal with that.

Things are not looking good in the veg room at the moment and it is really pissing me off because I repeated a mistake from the past. I had forgotten how evil those little coir pots can be if you transplant them directly into soil. They seem to act like a sponge and create a little micro-swamp in the pot. The kids were all looking really sad and droopy after the transplant. I started to think back to why I stopped using those coir pots and remembered the swamp effect. Last night I did an emergency re-transplant and sure enough the rootball inside the coir pots was a muddy mess.

Hopefully they bounce back quickly now that they have been pulled from the swamp. I guess this is turning into a test of the resilience of these plants. Not what I had in mind but shit does happen sometimes. Needless to say, the coir pots have been tossed in the compost and will never be seen in my garden again...

Hopefully everything is rebounding after the "swamping" incident. The SS should be hard to kill, I'd imagine the Kali Mist should be pretty vigorous too with the AK in there. Hope all is well.

Hey BP - the kids are coming around after their romp in the mud. I decided to top them to reduce transpiration after reading up on the effects of over watering. You are right about the SS being able to take the abuse. They didn't seem to be affected as badly as the KM. I snapped some shots of the soggy sadness and will post those when I get around to taking some new shots. Hopefully we'll get those going in the next few days.

As I was reading down your thread, as soon as I noticed you had the coir pots I was like, "oh noooooooo!" As I got farther down, I was almost laughing... my experience was identical, and I ended up doing a transplant on quite a few that weren't getting over the hump. Fuk those silly little pots. Everybody thinks they look all cool and natural, until they screw you over, lol.

Glad I found my way here, finally. Musta been this tincture that the fairy sent to me from a land far away. Makes things all fuzzy feelin! Thanks tincture fairy, wherever you are.

Welcome aboard Bobo! I should have told you about this place earlier. I'm trying out some local Indica dom that so far seems like a beast. Anything that lived through the mudderboarding treatment these kids just went through deserves respect!

I'm definitely going to have to check out the CO section. Some of the best dank I've ever come across is from my days in Boulder. Stuff that would make the clubs out here roll over and drool... It was nuts... these college kids, growing the meanest crip ever. I had some AK once that was just pure violence-- a smell that made you think she'd already been smoked, and the bouquet on her was the best AK bouquet I've smelled to date... totally textbook. Another good one out there was Northern Lights... again, a great example of the strain, just as much so as the AK was in it's own right. These are the buds that made me want to start growing. I've been in contact with a lot of high quality shit over my days, but there are a couple of bags in there that set the standard for what I truly consider connoisseur cannabis. I'm sure you've got some of these stories, too Maybe this thread is the next installment? I bet so.

Hey Guys - the kids managed to dry off nicely after the swamp incident and are looking good again. They've all been topped and given a feeding of Great White to help get the root system back on track after the drowning.

By the looks of things out in the flower room, I should be pulling the AK and Ketama in the next week or so which will free up some space for a couple of these kids. Hopefully they'll be showing sex strongly enough by then that I can cull the males and throw the girls in flower. I'm planning to toss the KM in first to let them get their stretch on, and I'll veg the SS a while longer before tossing her in.

It seems that we didn't recover from the mudderboarding incident as gracefully as I originally thought. Out of 6 seeds I ended up with only one female. My theory is that the stress from the swamp effect turned most of the plants to males. I'd be interested to hear what others think of this theory.

So now, we're left with one Kali Mist. I'm working on some back-fill options to round out my flower room.

The lucky lady was flipped to flower on 1/22. I left the rest of the plants in the flower room to confirm sex, and they all grew balls except for this one. She's in 7 gallons of soil with about 60% Supersoil. Hopefully that will give her enough food to run to the end of her long flowering cycle. As you can see, I've been busy with the bondage. We didn't really work out our safety word early enough and I got a bit too rough on her. Thus the duct tape. As we all know, duct tape can fix anything so she's doing just fine.

your theory is correct sir, stress within the first 4-5 weeks (before sex is determined) can push one direction or the other, but it can also increase chances of hermaphodism, so keep an eye on her.

I like the mods for the solid airpots!

Stressed out seedlings make man parts...its a fact of life. I recently accidentally gave a strong dose of bloom tea to a seedling that had just shown her hairs on the calyx's and she went all Herman Munster on me. Ooops...Nothing like an attempt to kick yourself in the nuts eh? Chop em down and plant some more!

Looking forward to seeing your KM bloom out though...its been a few years since I've grown any of Simon's gear.

I'll third it! I had the same problem as you, and got the same results. With my repotted coir pots I had little mud pots for a couple days. 4 of my 5 seeds turned macho. Fuk. Dat.

Sounds like we have a consensus then. Stressed babies = male adolescents (or shemale adults). Thanks for the hermie heads up EC. I'll be watching her closely. I really don't want another seeded batch of bud following my Ketama hermie incident... BTW - the males have all been chopped and composted. What a sad day that was. They all looked so nice and healthy, but even if I had room to keep males around I don't think I'd trust those guys for stable breeding.

EC - thanks for the compliment on the airpot mod. I used window screen this time around and it is working better than the smart pots did. The smart pot fabric held a bit too much moisture. I won't use that top mesh basket next time around though. It dries out too fast and I had to water from the top until the roots reached down to the moist soil below. That's why the saran wrap is on that upper section, to help with moisture retention. The other problem with using a rigid basket on top is that I keep forgetting that it is not all one piece and I've grabbed the top a few times when I lifted the pot to rotate it. I'm sure that doesn't make the roots happy.
