New grower need help on setup.

Hey first time grower and this here is my setup. The picture is kinda shitty but it is in my closet with mylar film on the walls and a 400w Mh light, there is a little fan as well. Just wondering how many plants you think I could grow. The seeds I will be growing are ShortRyder from Nirvana. Also what are some good ideas for ventilation, or is the fan enough?

im no expert but you could easy have 4 under that with no problems with good resualts even 6 plants will probs do good any more i would of thought the yeild would decrease

Welcome to Rollitup! Your setup looks rather legit for a newb, I'd throw 4-6 plants in there, Look up the scrog method if you want to really maximize yields. It takes some research and work but you can do it! I just use a fan in and a fan out oscilating on the plants, don't forget the importance of simulating wind on the plants, it will make those weak little stems nice and strong for holding bud. Congrats on getting started, Have fun and make sure your fully prepared for everything before starting! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Greetings! I agree 4-6 plants and to maximize yield, I suggest LST and topping. However, the first suggestion is to read and study. Watch some videos, Jorge Cervantes Ultimate grow dvd's 1 & 2 as well as High Times Ready, Set, Grow 1 & 2 are both available free on you tube. There is ton of great info avilable in the stickies on RIU as well. Good Luck and +rep for taking the leap into farming.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely check out those videos for sure. One question though cause my last attempt at growing failed. Can I place the seeds in my soil and start them under that light? or is that to much light for them before they have sprouted?

You can germinate under that light. But, why take the additional hit on the electric bill? You can germinate in some paper towels, put them in a small pot under a 6400k cfl or 2 until they enter vegging state (about 3 weeks). Then transplant into their finishing pots. That way you only transplant 1 time and reduce stressing them. A good rule of thumb for pots is to have 1 gallon of medium for each foot of height you want the girls to finish at.

Would the 400w make them grow quicker than the 6400k cfl's?

Can't say for certain but I know they will be just fine under cfl's for a couple of weeks.
