So yeah my life hasn't been what i expected it to be and im out of options at this point...

so im gonna go back to school folks.

Im not sure for what. Ive considered an AA or BA in Business/management or HR.

What do you guys think?

Im pretty lost and since school is gonna cost me a buttload of cash i need to make the right choice. Im probably gonna attend via the internet as my current living situation wont allow me to physically go to school full time.

thoughts?

and to give this thread more purpose how many of you are in or have graduated college? what did you study? whats your degree? etc.

i graduated collegge with a BA and i don't work in the field i studied. my recommendation is to study somthing with a future career in mind. don't just go for the degree, go for the career. like nursing, lots of jobs in that field plus you can work your way into better positions with some more education such as a NP (nurse practitioner). studying english and getting a BA will get you no where except further into debt. honestly, i think going to mechanic school makes more sense than studying liberal arts and getting a BA.

What are you intersted in? you won't succeed unless you're interested.

took an auto mechanics course (DEP) .. Worked for Infiniti (nissan) during the September 11 attack, I was let go, along with an other a week later (don't see the link ..)
took a professional cooking course (DEP) didn't work out for me and others, restaurant biz isn't real forgiving ..

It's about what you do with the options at hand .. you have no true guarantee to come out with a diploma AND get a job ..
I remember seeing this document with rich ppl that don't even go to college and made it big lol (rare but still) , to be a big diploma also means big competition ..

I don't know what its like in the states but in the UK there are record numbers of people going to university getting degrees etc that now degrees are not as highly valued as there used to be and everyone coming out in debt and there is no work here! I had no work so I had an idea now I run my own business & shop. Got lucky I guess.

I hope you do go back and kill it man. That would be awsome.

I left college with one semester to go, but it's a brutal one. I've never gone back to finish it, and it's one of my lifes biggest regrets.

Go for it!

that's exactly how it is here in the US. even a Masters degree isn't useful, especially if you're not specialized with a career in mine. an MBA is complete shit at this point.

It is a shame I am wondering whats going to happen. At some point the countries employment and education market are going to collide and crash in a big way. I really don't know what the answer is.

BUT taking my hat off to the OP. I never went college or University. Worked from 16. I regretted it ever since. Im not dumb. Just don't have the bit of paper that says I can do the stuff I can do.

what do you like to do that's always in demand? make sure you can make bills disappear on the things you love to do thats all that matters.

hmmm my thoughts exactly but due to my current living situation i kind of have to go to school or just be a complete bum.

Ive always said that those who go to college have about half the common sense of those who don't. however i find myself in my early 20s working a dead end job and realizing i need something else to do. i did wanna go to a trade school of some sort and learn something i could possibly use to work for my self (ie. electrician, plumber, hvac tech, etc) however like i said due to my living situation thats not much of an option.

which also restricts me as far as what degrees i can work towards (as it would have to all/mostly be online). business appealed to me as i figure thats a pretty general degree (almost everywhere in the world has someone working for them w/ a business degree pretty much) that i could adapt to something. idk.. i think management would be kind of a good thing (good way to get past the entry level minimum wage BS that im tired of working) but not sure.

everyone says, "GO to the medical field!" but i hate the idea of the working in the medical field. idk y but it really doesnt appeal to me.

im pretty screwed at this point as classes will start in the next month and i STILL don't know what im gonna do. i havent been to school in 4-5 years...hope i can do this...

i considered getting a BA in general studies but figured thats a terrible idea as many employers would view it as a "BS" degree (bs as in bullshit) as they usually want someone whos been extensively learning a certain field/area.

Going back to school is a good idea. It can't hurt have a degree and more education. I don't know what you're going to study or anything because I didn't read the whole thread but since you're going BACK to school I would choose some very practical that's in demand and you don't hate.

I'm currently going to school for an AS in internet service technology specializing in web development and programming, I want to go into internet advertising. I figure every business in the world needs a website and advertising. Also, with a lot of computer jobs you can work from home.
If you don't like computers I would still recommend going for an AS degree. All an AA degree is good for is getting into a university and getting a bachelor's degree.

while i plan on working towards an AA/AS or a BA im wondering how much weight a certificate program has? at least so i can land something semi-decent (jobwise) while im trying to pay my way through school as i realized its gonna be quite expensive.

some of the management ones appealed to me (business management, retail management, etc)...plus since i plan on getting a AA/AS/BA somewhere in the management area it seemed like it wouldnt be a bad idea.

thoughts?
