1st Grow Temp Question

Hello All, just starting to go into flower on my first grow. Wouldn't have got this far without the folks here. I have Miricle Gro soil, 250w MH HPS, 4 inch inline fan and filter, exhaust into the attic, Intake 4 inch duct from attic that I attached to the back of a reg. fan. 12 hr day temps reach 82 , 12-nite temps are reaching 64 w/ just the filter running.

What is the best temp range for flowering? I remember trolling the board and found someone who said cooler temps encourage heavier resins.

What's an allowable temp range

Do HPS run hotter?

Hey H&S, thanks for the reply.

Raised the HPS to about a foot above the plants and redirected the fan to bounce off the wall instead of directly on the plants. I think I was getting some wind burn and tip dryout. Lowered my temps to about 76. I'll watch to see how the tips do.

Merry X-mas, got a pinch hitter and Jorge Cevantes book Marijuana Grow Basics in my stocking!

Also had wilted plants in my closet!

I gotten a timer for the CF and had it set for 1/2 hr on, 1/2 hr off. When I checked them this am, was 58-60 and I had 2 very droopy plants. Turned the CF back on full time and tossed a heater in there to raise the temp to 64-66. They seem to be responding and perking up a bit. Having a problem balancing the temps. I'm running 6am to 6pm on dark cycle to use the light at nite for warmth.

Really didn't want to run a heater in there, it's already starting to look like the back of my stereo cabinet.

your plants are supposed to look like that when they wake up. I let my grow cab fluctuate between 55 and 85, with a few forays into the 40s and 90 during a grow, with no problems. Did you take that pic when the plants first woke up, or before they went to bed?

First grow and all, I'm like a mother hen on the girls.

The pics were taken about 3 hours into their nap. Checked them this morning and droopy again. Temps 62-64, waking temps 74-76.

Thanks C-guts, would have been freaking out today when I looked in the garden. thanks for the heads up.

Very nice 1st grow. I know what you mean about droppy plants when the lights are off. It takes a while to get use to the plants different looks at different times of night and day. I'm on my 1st grow also and it has been a emotional ride from day 1.

Yepper, While it is so important to be vigilant during your first few grows, you must remain pragmatic. If you stick around here long enough, you will see the negative impacts that arise from folks, fixing shit that ain't broke. I, myself, have killed more plants and seeds, than any 5 people I know. Some through experimentation, some through outside influences, and some through plain old stupidity. I am dialed in now to the type of growing that best suits me. I have near 100% germ rates, a near 100% cloning success rate, and I pull my half pound per "tote grow" pretty much without fail. I realize my grows are just "small potatoes", but I only have to spend a few hours a week on my garden, and with alternating totes in flower, I get a pound every 3 months. If I can help, PM me. There's a fucking thousand ways to grow, some good, some not so good. I can only tell you how and why I grow the way I do, but i'm more than willing to share. cheers

I am using this a learning opportunity! Patience is a Virtue! Trying to leave the girls alone and why I tried Seymour Bud's Miricle grow system for my first grow. Still getting down to 62 during the nite cycle. I'm going to add reflective insulation today to the walls.

Patience maybe a virtue, more like slow S&M ;)

Thanks for the help Gutz, my lady is form the detriot burbs'. Her side of the family has a couple of garden grows going up there. Throw em in the dirt and they grow! Starting to think I married into the Beverely Hills Klampit Pot family!

Still learning about the girls. My lady is still laughing at me cuz I'm looking in on them all the time. I'm actually really getting into it and it's cheaper than Harley's ;)

Update :

  • got a cheap min/max thermometer from Home Depot $9.98

    http://www.homedepot.com/Outdoors-Ou...atalogId=10053

No more sneaking in all day to see what the temps are! It's running between 60-78 degrees and 38-77 humid. Have tried the raising humidity by throwing a wet wash clothe over the fan, helps raise the humidity when the lights are running. I think this battle is done. Without throwing more money at it or construction this temp/humidity range is working well. The girls seem happy. A week into flowering and the buds are coming in already. Pretty lil white hairs! Matching up with pics, they look like week 3 or 4.

Not really sure why the passive vent didn't seem to effect the space much. Leaving it in to experiment with this summer.
