In my observations there are several sorts of drinkers. There are drinkers that manage to bring themselves to a certain level of intoxication and do a balancing act were they stay there for some amount of time. There are drinkers who simply drink a certain number of drinks and then quit for the evening and there are drinkers who drink as much as they can until they either pass out or fall asleep.
I am an impatient drinker, I set out to "get drunk" and If after an hour or so, I cannot manage it, I give up but the fact that I set out to "get drunk" makes me a bing drinker. However, I will not continue even if I do "get drunk" but quit completely after I have attained the level of intoxication I am aiming for.
This is all in the past. My binge drinking days are at an end, the last two times I did that my heart went into atrial fibrilation and I am advised that alcohol is the ultimate culprit.
I think that people who were introduced to drugs before they started drinking may well drink as I do - they are out for the effect, they are expecting a distinct beginning, middle and end to their intoxication. I have been told that anyone who drinks in order to be intoxicated is a binge drinker but I don't believe that is so, I can't see why anyone would drink if it were NOT for the intoxication of some level or other.
