this might help people who are thinking of growing bulk
Amazon.com: Misco Home and Garden 3-Shelf Greenhouse: Kitchen & Dining
has 3 shelves, dont need all that head room (17"/shelf) could probly modify it to 5 shelves for cakes... for 4 for casings.... fit about 24 cakes on each shelf (each cake taking up a 4.5"x4.5" square) soo about 120 cakes fruiting in this bad boy.
you could maintain with a cool mist or ultrasonic humidifier on a timer, or use a tray on each shelf with a layer of perlite, or mist the walls a lot.. or all.. whatever.
normally people i have seen use a cat litter pan in the bottom or some equivilant to catch water that runs down the jacket... or put it in a shallow rubbermade
$35 on
devilcorp (not sure if that is a real place, dont click on it, probly porn.... ok ... go ahead and click on it)
120 cakes x 4g = 480g dry = 17ounces = 1lb + dry every flush
(if you just use the 3 shelves its still 10oz)
thats assuming u use the cake method... wouldnt hurt to learn how to do casings
or harness some straw logs on each shelf
this is what i plan to do once i pick it back up... tubs take up too much toom, pain in the ass to stack and unstack for misting/checkups
so assuming you only let the jars go one flush and always have jars in incubation you could get 1-2 flushes a month with the same cakes or new cakes so thats 34 ounces a month?
its not really hard to mix and pack all those jars... just get high and you and a lab partner can really get these things done... its work but get the fuck over it, nothing's easy
same goes for inoculation... the only thing that will take some significant patience... again.. grab a lab partner to hand you what you might need (so your hands arent grabbing all over the place, you will touch shit and not even realize it)
probly take an hour or so to do all those jars but you will only need to do this 1-2 a month or of course you could do them in smaller batches every weekend and have a REAL continual harvest... but thats only if you want to be picking mushrooms every day
the other thing that will take time... harvesting
of course you could go the lazy way and do them all at once but its best to really keep and eye on it and pick in singles or groups as they reach the right time (right before the veil breaks)
so there you go .. how to grow POUNDS of dry mushrooms a month
(i know.. sounds IMPOSSIBLE!!!)
all in a space of about 1.5ft x 2.25ft x 4ft tall
(not including incubators)
