most 250 watt combos with ballast and hood are around 180 to 200 then u gotta purchase a bulb for about 30

If AU is the same thing as AUD on the online currency converter I used, then the light is very overpriced, at least in comparison to what can be purchased in the U.S. If AU is AUD then that converts to $213.57 for a 250 watt MH with a less than spectacular reflective hood.

But, here at least, You can get the following for $183.95 you can purchase a Digital Greenhouse 250-watt digital ballast light that you can use both MH and HPS bulbs in and have a much better reflective hood.

Of, for $204.95 you can have a Digital Greenhouse 400-watt dimmable digital ballast light that you can use both MH and HPS bulbs in and not only have a better reflective hood that the one you are looking at, but have one that's even better than comes with the 250-watt light mentioned above.

But if AU and AUD are something different, ignore what I wrote. If they are the same, keep looking if you want a good value for your money.

I don't know about his ... but look what you can get there now for $219.95, plus options and shipping. $199.95 gets you the same manufacturers 600-watt but not with a dimmable ballast.

What is up with DIMMABLE Ballasts?
Dimmable Digital Electronic ballasts are the latest innovation in High Intensity Discharge (HID) Horticultural Lighting Technology. The Digital Greenhouse DIMMABLE Digital Ballasts allows you to operate your 600 watt lamp at 50%, 75% or 100% Full Power! This is especially useful when you have young plants that do not need and cannot withstand the full output of 600 watts. You can start your plants under 50% power, then as they grow move up to 75% and finish them off with 100% full power. This saves you money on your electric bill and more importantly fullfills the lighting needs your plants require at specific stages of growth. It's all about CONTROL! You control the output of the light your plants need when they need it!

Digital Greenhouse Digital Electronic ballasts have a proven track record of reliability and performance. Digital Greenhouse Digital ballasts are also one of the very few Digital Ballast to earn the U.L. Listing Seal of Approval that ensures the product is safe to use. Digital Greenhouse Digital ballasts offer a 5 YEAR WARRANTY (3 year full warranty, 2 year pro-rated) so you can rest assured this is a quality product that will give you many years of solid performance.

15' Universal Socket Set

  • 15' Heavy Duty Cord
  • Specialty Plug fits into ballast receptacle
  • 5KV Pulse Rated Porcelain Mogul based socket fits all major brand High Intensity Discharge (HID) mogul based lamps!
  • Universal design fits many types and brands of reflectors including High Yield Lighting, SunLight Supply and more!
  • Allows you to remotely located ballast away from plants.
  • Makes upgrading/changing reflector types simple, fast and easy!
  • Top Quality, Steel Construction
  • 15' Heavy Duty Cord length between receptacle plug and socket housing.

The recommended square foot coverage (area measure on the floor space of a garden) for a 1000 watt system is roughly 36-100 sq/ft.
Please note this is just a basic recommendation and depending on your particular garden or plants (and even reflector style) you may be able to use this light in a smaller or larger area than the suggested area of coverage. As a general rule, a garden cannot have "too much light". Meeting the plants demands for water, nutrients and CO2 must be met with increased light intensity to achieve optimium plant growth. Heat is often also a concern in any indoor garden and growers must be prepared to deal with ventilating the heat generated by a lighting system (and humidity produced by the plants). Different reflector styles also lend themselves to different sized gardens. Extra-Large reflectors like the SunSoaker or AiroFlow are designed to accomodate a large garden area while the MaxWing and others are best for modest, medium sized gardens. Using Air Cooled Reflectors is also suggested as they greatly facilitate containing and removing the heat generated by the lamp/bulb. Please visit our eBay store for other reflectors and bulb configurations available with this system.

Lumatek's warranty:

Best warranty in the industry - 3 year full warranty - 2 year pro-rated

How much longer is the warranty you get from the hydro store, and do you have to pay for a longer warranty than the two above give you with the sales price?

And if you think you need more warranty with a Digital Greenhouse light:

Extended Ballast Protection - 6 Full Years! ($40.00)

there is less difference in price between ballasts than you might think.

my 600 cost 20 bux less than the 400w next to it (same company)

a 70w ballast isnt That much cheaper either :)

(pretty similar cost involved making the ballasts..)

what kind of warranty you think you get when you buy from some one off the internet cause if u have been growin for a min u know shit malfunctions
I have dealt with HTG supply for years, exclusively buying digital greenhouse ballasts. I have 5 of them. The oldest one recently malfunctioned, out of warranty. I called them and asked what we could do and they replaced it with a 1k that I wanted instead of the 600 and sold me a top line reflector at cost without charge for shipping and threw two premium bulbs in the package at no charge as well. THAT'S the kind of warranty you get when you buy off the internet, chum.

Some people think that if they purchase from a store and pay much more for a product they ended up with a better product and a place that will stand behind the product.

That isn't always the case though.

But for the large additional amount they pay they receive the fantasy of a better value and more security when it comes to product reliability and help if it is ever needed.

That or people just have this amazing ability to think that a salesman is telling the truth and not shifting stock that needs to be shifted. I like buying on the internet as i get to make up my own mind on whether something is worth buying, not have some businessman telling me that this is the one to buy.

If a manufacturer guarantees it's product, then it doesn't matter where you buy it from.

I'll agree with bricktop that HTG offers a great warranty but the largest mistake I ever made was going with HTG for my initial purchase. Everything they sell is outrageously expensive for the quality. They sell 1kW nondimmable lumateks for $360, this place sells dimmable lumateks for $250... http://www.urbansunshine.com/digital-ballasts

There own alibaba chinese ballasts are even more expensive than the competitors lumateks... Thats NUTS!!!

They guaranteed I wouldn't be able to find a hortilux cheaper than their bundle - week later found out that all 4 local hydro shops sell them for ~30% less...and offers a 1.5 year warranty on all their bulbs.

He he, even alibaba offers a factory 3year warranty - http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/368453901/Digital_Ballast.html?s=p
