Need Advice, 1000W for ten minutes?

Ok.
So a friend has a tanning bed that she never uses, and says I can use it.
I would have to go get it, which wouldn't be a huge problem.

But...It uses a lot of electricity, and could burn out easy...
It has UV rays coming out, which is supposed to be cleanly for your plants...But I'm wondering if 1000W of UV/Floro lighting is worth transporting, and paying for (There would be a tiny electric cost) at only ten minutes a day...

Would there be ANY noticeable difference in buds?
I'm about 1/5 into flowering, so now would be a good time to ADD light, but...Would that much even matter???

I've got a constant 760W (Floro) on it already...
With this there would be 10 minutes of 1760W on my three girls..

Worth it???
Please give opinion on what ten minutes of TONS of light will do.

If it worked or not, the size would be too big for me...and 10 minutes a day? Would you have room to add it to your flower area or have to take each girl to it every time? I would just invest in a nice HPS setup if I were you.

Good luck Fin!

I added a uvb 10 light to my last grow and I was very impressed with the results not so much with coverage area (about 20" from bulb) but the 18$ for the bulb was worth it, it changed my buds purple and they were very crystallized they sparkled. Note this was with a 1000w hps and a uvb 10 cfl bulb. I would have to say a tanning bed wouldn't be worth the trouble spend the 18 beans and get a cfl.

I would just put it in my grow room, behind where I stand, and open their room for the 10 minutes a day, and let the light spill in from where I would be standing if I was looking at them...
I don't have the money for HPS right now or I would, this would be free if I do it...

I can't afford the ballast and everything for HPS...

I dont understand the 10 min a day thing?
I mean, maybe I could do more.

But I would probably just set the tanning bed for "10 minutes" once a day, and let it run it's time, then not turn it on again until the next day.
I don't want to pay for a tanning bed 12/12...

10 min a day from a UV tanning bed will do nothign but burn your retnas and slowly give you skin cancer, your plants will benefit in no way from this short exposure to non PAR light.

On the other hand for 18$ you could add a UVB CFL bulb which will increase resin production and may effect color adding that bag appeal.

They are Hg Floro light bulbs JUST LIKE any T5, they just say they let out UV rays...

It would do SOMETHING I know that much.

And I'm not asking about staring at the tanning bed, I wouldn't be standing there for 10 minutes a day with it....

actually fin hate to say it but don't waster your time be more of a hassle then what its worth and there is a difference from tanning bed florescents and growing t'5s ultraviolet will actually kill your plants thats why so many reverse osmosis machines attach UV lighting which water runs thru it killing bacteria etc

I thought you guys at DNA said that UV lights just killed bacteria, and isn't good or bad for your plant, but can help it mutate (Sometimes good, sometimes bad)???

Maybe this is different or I'm remembering wrong, I don't know.

if it wasn;t for our atmosphere and magnetic poles lots of plants would die with direct uv lighting

UV light (especially UVB light) causes some types of marijuana to increase their resin production as a type of natural sun screen. UVB lights are basically tricking the plant into thinking the sun is shining right on them (simulating marijuana grown at high altitudes) and they better start producing resin to protect themselves from all the harmful UV radiation they are receiving. The UV light from a tanning bed will do the same thing butnot if its on for 10 min a day. Most people who add UV to their grows add UVB light and they do it for 8 hours out of the 12 hour photoperiod.

Without the atmosphere EVERYTHING would die with direct UV lighting though...

Is this what happens with tanning bed UV also?

So there would be 0% helpful grow light coming out?

UV light really isnt helpful per say it is more stressful. If you want to stress your plants to produce more resin then yeah it is helpful in that sense. if you want your plant to use this light to perform photosynthesis and grow it will not be helpful at all for that.

Oh,
Damn...

That sucks....

Before one can discuss harmful effects of tanning equipment and increased sun exposure, one must be familiar with the components of ultraviolet light and how affects the skin. Sunlight contains two types of ultraviolet (UV) light: UVA and UVB. UVA rays consist of longer wavelengths that penetrate deep into the dermal layer of skin. Limited exposure to UVA rays causes skin to tan; however, most experts agree that overexposure to UVA can lead to other long-term skin damage. UVB rays wavelengths are much shorter, affecting the outermost layers of skin. UVB rays are known as the "burning rays" and are considered more dangerous. Tanning beds and sun lamps generally emit 93% to 99% UVA radiation increasing the benefits of a tan This is three times the UVA radiation given off by the sun

can you imagine what it would do to a plant lol dont do it bro
