2 for 2 on the hermie train...

Man I hate hermies and male plants....... Grrr (I'm not looking to produce seeds)... You ask me there is no point in letting it grow until the seeds mature, I'll give it a 2 week flush then chop. I've been smoking unflushed buds in my bong anyhow.... At this rate I will have nothing by the time its dry.. LOL How I wish I had a better set up.... But hey if I did it would be contaminated with pollen... LOL... I don't know how growers pull it off not getting hermies... Or contaminating the whole crop, I imagine they must do something other then just genetics.. I know the lighting is much more professional then what I'm using... I heard spraying the plant with a mist kills pollen... I wonder if they do that often or something?

I guess it could come down to genetics as I have read from your responses and elsewhere... Have a good mother and that's all that matters? I know that's what my buddy said... I should just ask a friend for a clone of a plant that has good genetics... But I do have some northern lights seeds I wanted to try out.. They are normal seeds. Then again flowering with fluorescent's and burning leaves I think could be enough stress, not to mention the generic fertilizers I've been using. But hey, better genetics wouldn't hurt.

can you show a close up of the hermie parts? how many are there? i dont see any in the pics and that leads me to believe that if it has hermied it might not be that bad as it doesnt look to be making tons of them all over. it may stay manageable, ive had plants that were controllable with only the rare male flower forming once in a while after picking off(very carefully to avoid popping them) the first male flowers that form. at the same time though it could start making tons and tons of them, ive seen that too.

good genetics wont prevent hermies if you're torturing your girls, but if your bag was cheap brickweed with a bunch of seeds, its gonna be ALOT more likely to turn on you... Good genetics have selectively chosen strong parents for generations which suppresses the tendency. It will always be present in the dna of the plant, but quality strains will be much much much more predictable as their lines can be traced back just like a thorobred racehorse or pedigree champion dogs.

I've taken like 3 separate small branches all seeded... Seeds are small so u cant even taste them in the smoke right now really.. But they are seeds. I honestly don't see ANY male parts.... One bottom branch is suspicious I cut the other one off that looked the same, they just look underdeveloped with no hair coming out... So small doesn't look like a male part... But I guess it could be. DSCF0077.jpg DSCF0081.jpg
I have a couple like that which were suspicious to me but as you can see so small you can't see much.... But no hairs... I assume these TINY bottom branches might have hermed? It's so small I can't really focus on it. Especially because its awkward to get that close to the stalk. I could cut it off.. But I already cut her earlier.. wanna give it a break.

If its already flowering, typically it wont make the normal male "nuts", they'll usually show as just a tiny lil yellowish banana right in the middle of the bud itself. not a nut cluster by the internode. if its early in flowering the nanners are easy to see against the white pistils, but as the seed pouches swell they can completely hide them nanners, but they're there and each contains millions of spores, one TINY TINY bump and one spore escapes... being inside the fully developed buds increases the chances of pollination. If the plant is a true genetic hermaphrodite, it will usually produce the female and male flowers simultaneously as they would develop in nature just on the same plant. If a female plant that is producing flowers is stressed and switches because if fears death and wants to produce seed quickly, will squeeze out a few bananas right in those buds because they are most likely to pollinate there.

U know I'm thinking I have the cfls too close............ I think burning the leaves causes heat stress which triggers hermies...... I was reading keep it close, but I don't think burning leaves pays off in the end. I wish they had mini t-5's...

I did read that blackjack has a tendancy to go hermie indoors ( just recently)

I grew normal seed white widow at first and that hermed too.. But I did have a male growing in the same pot with no barrier and I think the juice leaked. lol, I noticed a little bit too late. It would be so much easier if the male buds sprouted little hairs, cuz then they'd stick out like a sore thumb.

Needless to say I used all new soil. and cleaned the pot and everything after the first time and changed the filters...
