Can you change the smell of the buds?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you can actually change/add smell to buds? I harvested before xmas and buds are coming nicely, unfortunately the best plant in the growroom turnes out to be a stinker, and not in a good way :/ Imagine the smell of used engine oil combined with the cyanoacrylate super-glue kind of smell - thats my champion plant . It`s really potent and even the taste when smoking is ok, but the smell....its revolting. Im not exaggerating when I quote certain pulp fiction character saying "this is some fucked up repugnant shit". I thought about putting few aromatised blunt wraps or some fruit pieces in the jar with the buds, but Im not sure whether it would actually have any effect, or perhaps make it even worse. What do you think?

thought orange peels keep the humidity up so the dank doesnt dry to fast?
(im probably totaly wrong on that. but i dont think orange peels really work to flavor buds.... do they?)

Nothing you do is going to change the smell or flavor of the bud.

Well, unless you soak it in something. Fruit pieces or peels won't do anything except invite mold and/or keep humidity levels up.

I have the same problem here with one plant that has been cured for 2 months. It was some type of bad pheno in this particular seed, came out potent and looks great...but it smells and tastes like rotting mushrooms. I tried using orange peels etc...still smells like shit so it sits in a closet in case I actually run out some day cuz I don't want to puff it.

I can't even make kief out of it, only BHO extraction would work to eliminate the awful taste.

Anything fragrant that you throw in the jar will impart some scent/flavor. I personally don't like to flavor bud but you can use flower petals, spices, incense, potpourri, cedar wood, sandalwood, soap (i would recommend organic soaps with legitimate flower/fruit/herbal oils),... pretty much anything. Put in jar, not in contact with bud (separate with coffee filter, tin foil...), and it will impart some of the scent/flavor. Like others have stated - citrus peels works well.

Thx guys, will have to try some peels or some natural scenting oil, if it fails I will give that watercuring a try, been reading up on it. Still a major letdown, damn it!

Dank is dank, you ever try covering up the smell of good weed, can't do it, I take my best weed and jar it with the worst. the bad stuff get's better, and the DANk just loses alittle bit of it's dankness, and is still great weed.

now if you weed really has something wrong with it, it could mess up anything you put in there with it

I would say water curing and then use it to stretch your other weed you like smoking...since water curing is supposed to get rid of the smell and most of the taste...like put a little of the stuff that tastes good with some of the other not so tasty but since watercured stuff, and I would think it would get you high but with just the taste of the good stuff...but I guess that would depend on what tools you use as well...anyway I have never water cured and wouldn't except in this sort of scenario or occurrence...but, since it is what I have read about and then thought to myself "If I get some that is just terrible tasting I am going to do this"...

If there was ever a case for water curing this is it...you will lose the smell, it will smoke smooth and potency should stay right around the same here's a link discussing water curing so that you can research and decide for yourself, I think there may also be a tutorial

Heres the thread https://www.rollitup.org/harvesting-curing/494994-does-anyone-water-cure-there.html

Hey guys, sorry for not replying but my net connection has been down for a while. It`s been dried for a week and in separate jars after that. Thats the thing - it tastes quite good its just the smell that ruins the whole thing, thats why I wouldnt want to watercure it unless theres no other option left. Having said that, as it cures it seems to be SLOWLY losing that nose biting super-glue whiff about it, so maybe not all hope is lost yet. I will give it another week in a jar and then perhaps try and add some scent, I already got my hands on some juniper oil.

Cheers again for all the replies

not much you can do if you don't like the plant other than trying different strains. My friend had this "tobacco flavoring" crap, It was really for marijuana but its sold as a tobacco product. It came in all sorts of flavors, He had cotton candy flavor. I enjoyed it a lot more back then, then I would have now. You could definitely taste cotton candy with each puff, and the air would stink of cotton candy lol.
