Uhoh, realtors need to measure house! :(

My landlord has decided to sell the house we're renting, and i just got his message saying that at some point a realtor will need to come in and measure the house. The problem with that is, my grow is in an upstairs half-room (like a closet, only bigger) that has a locking door that only my husband and myself have the key for. This was a locking doorknob that we bought ourselves and installed ourselves specifically FOR the grow room, in case we had unexpected guests.

Anyway--i have two questions. Can i lock the door and expect it not to be an issue? Will the realtor absolutely HAVE to measure that little bit of closet space? It's really no more than 5 feet square, and roughly 5.5' tall, with a sloping ceiling that ends at the floor. Small room. i'm hoping we can just say it's a locking closet, and that be the end of it, but i need to know what my rights are as a renter--am i allowed to lock a door that buyers would potentially want to open?

Also, if i CAN'T lock that door, we may have a plan to hide our plants (3 of them, now in 3 gallon containers, but still only 3 weeks old). However, we will probably have to keep them in darkness for a period of maybe up to 2 hours. How will this affect them? Will they die?

i am so into these plants now, i completely hate the thought of throwing them away. Is there any way i can keep them?

Basically, the closet door was closed real tight and there was a sign on it like "science experiment, do not expose to light" or something similar and the two doors were lightly taped shut.

For your situation, I suggest a saying like "do not enter, expensive [item/s] inside" and write the measurements of the half-room on the sheet of paper just in case they absolutely need it. Do this on your computer, it looks much more official. Try... "..expensive violins inside" or vases.

It'd suck to lose your grow and i think that'd help

It will be significantly cooler where we hide him, is that still ok? i'm figuring that if we could just hide them when the realtor comes to measure, and then keep the door locked if we have buyers looking at the house, then that would still work out. Is that legal though? Can i as a renter keep the door locked without it becoming an issue?

See, that's kinda the idea i had--i was thinking about putting up a "Private" sign, but i like the science experiment sign even better lol. Just something that would give a good disguise as to why that door is locked. If i did that, then i wouldn't have to take down allll that black and white poly that took my husband and i hours to hang. Thanks for your input, it's given me some ideas.

i've moved my 1 week old plant from 28 degr Celsius to 8, maybe 10 degr. Celsius for two days in my cousins apartment because my father visit me(but i've moved the light also.two flurotubes).my point is that the plant was ok and survive the lower temps and it was so young.

Well, initially there will be a realtor in the house to measure it and get the exact square footage, and i think for that situation, we'll have to hide the plants for about 2 hours. i worry about the difference in temp--it won't be freezing, but at least 10-20 degrees cooler than what they're used to.

The long-term plan is for potential buyers who may view the house. i *really* don't want to trash my plants. There are only 3, and we have a ton more seeds, but these are my first real plants EVER. And i'm so proud of them and really attached.

Thanks, i feel really relieved that it could be so simple. They don't have a smell yet, really, although the room they're in smells sweet when i open the door...also, we bought a humidifier, but the humidity only goes up to about 46%. Will this be good enough, or should i get a more powerful one? Also, it's a "cool" humidifier, not a warm misting one, if it makes a difference.
