400 watt system will need a 6 inch fan and filter to move enough air and heat to make it controlable a 4" fan will work over time to keep up with a 400 watt hid system, a air cooled hood is a must for absolute control of the climate

i do not recommend any active air products the electrical connections corrode and short out after less then a year, you can get a cap fa for the same price which also moves 50 more cfm and all electrical connections are sealed internally

THANK you!

I actually bought that same fan and filter on Amazon for the same price, and it works great!! I have a 4x4x8 grow tent with huge plants in it. I set it in the back on a stool, and it works great, no smells, and no noisier than any other 4" fan I've seen. I have only been using it for a month, but so gar so good!

Sorry it took so long to write Zen ... read the prior posts and your original post is good for that size of tent. A filter only last about 18 months, so you will, as we all do, change them out after about that amount of time of usage. Some go every two years, and some even longer, but like everything else, it is totally up to the individual.

As time goes, and you get better at indoor gardening, you may want to upgrade to a bigger one. If things go well, I am sure you would upgrade perhaps the size of your tent ... correct? The bottom line here is ... It is your tent, your garden, your everything. It is up to you and you alone what the bottom line is, for everything you do. I am glad that you asked for help, and now the choice is up to you.

Best of Luck my friend :-)

sorry it took a minute to reply but look at a Cap valuline 6" fan, more then enough fan for use in a larger tent down the road and big enough to cool a 1000 watter, any carbon filter that flanged for a 6" fan with at least 4lb of carbon for your size tent will work, but one with 15-20# of carbon, you might never need to replace before stepping up too a larger tent
