2X6 closet 600w...light mover?

Hello everybody, I just framed up a wall behind my sliding closet doors out of 2x2 and 7/16 osb. It is lined floor to ceiling with diamond foil. I will be running 6" fan and filter, an air cooled 600w hps and a couple wall mount oscillating fans. Im thinking with the 6' length I wont be getting the most lumen productiomn to the edges and keep the light close enough to the plants. I'm thinking that a light mover would work well for me. I was thinking a 4'good would probably work. Any suggestions for me?

Because you are narrow, multiple lights or a mover would be my choice. Even with a 600 watter, you're still gonna get wasted light on the narrow sides of that lamp. And 1k watts would probably be even more wasteful. I hear largely varying reccomendations for light foot prints, but in my personal experience, in a 4x6 veg room, 1000 watts was not enough on the 6' wide side, but plenty on the 4' dimension. I was gonna go with a mover on like a 2'-3' total cycle, have not installed it yet, but am hopeful. At 600 watts a 4' mover would probably be about right. You are right about lumen production on the edges. When my room is full, the height of my light causes stretch with my 1k MH without the mover. For my money in that size/shape room I would do 2x 400 watts. Could probably peice something like that together for slightly more than the cost of a decent mover. 200w more isn't huge on the electric bill, but you'll get more overall light to your babies. You current fan is probably plenty to cool them both depending on the quality.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking a lot of light was going to get wasted on the narrow walls. Wouldn't the density suffer some from dropping back to 400s? I am looking to grow some dense ass nugs. So +1 for the light mover, im thinking that's the way I will end up going. I pulled 17 zips of strawberry cough out of my old 2.5'x5' closet with the 600. So I am hoping to get something a round the same this run or more. Going to run a different strain this time though.

2 400s would work.
You just cant grow tall plants. If you grow bigger plants, just top/scrog em cause the 400s have less penetration.

That actually makes a lot of sense. Never used a 400 before but that sounds about right.

Ya that's what I was thimlin I would have to do. Short plants and close lights with the 400s. Might be over kill but I keep running the thought of 2 600w in there, but it might just be a waste of money.

you can go eather way really....... 400's run about 3.5 amps and 600 runs about 5 amps but you get double the lumens for less then double the amps with a 600w.....So when you look at it that way you are only paying slightly more in PGe but getting double the penatration with the 600w....

but on the other hand a 600w covers 3.5x3.5 and a 400w covers 3x3 so really you would be fine with two 400w's close to canopy but still what if you change your grow down the line then you will be wishing you got 600w's instead........ I say if you are buying retail get the 600w as they are only a little more money...but if you have a hook up on used 400ws for cheap id go with the 400wats but dont pay full blown retail for a couple 400watts i think that be waste of money......we dont even sell 400watts at the store anymore because people dont buy them.....

If you can make the 2x 600w work, that is the route I would go. Calculating at my avg cost of .13 USD/KWB there was about a $400/year difference in electrical costs of 800w vs 1200w. I think you can push an extra $35 of month and a ton more with the 600s. And take the fact that most of the time you will be in 12/12, the cost difference becomes even more negligible.

I use 2x600 in a 3x8 cab, stadium scrog for 30 sq ft of screen area. It's plenty of light for that, honestly 2x600 in a 12 sq ft area is overkill (100w/sq ft!!). 12 sq.ft X 50w/sq.ft=600w. So either 2x400 for a little extra push, or the light mover.

thanks for all the suggestions. for the time being i wiill be using the single 600 and a 4' light mover i got off craigslist for 50 bucks. i was thinking about running 2 600s too but the mover was way cheaper than the extra light. i will probably end up going that route in the end. or maybe a 1000 on the mover, or would that be a total waste of light? i also want to give CO2 a shot and am confused on a couple little things. i realize that the exhaust fan should be off as much as possible when you run the gas but with the exhaust off and the intake still blowing to bring in fresh air, wont that create a positive pressure situation and push smell out of the room? definitely cant have that happening. as long as temp is ok would you cut off the intake too when the exhaust is off? never done it before so somebody who has please help me out here. much respect

Most people, including myself, will recommend a passive intake. No intake creating positive pressure. You're right, it will push the smell, and your co2, out of the room.

thats what i thought. so even with a passive intake and the exhaust off wont smell travel back through the intake and cause a problem?
