Reading these posts, I'm smiling. Clearly we have more than gardening in common...fish on!

My "goal" for this year is to catch a sturgeon in the Columbia River. There are tons of restrictions now on which sizes you can keep, but just once in my life I'd like to tie into a 10' long fish! With a knife very handy. Went marlin fishing with Mr. MG a few times, but just couldn't get my head around being strapped into a chair as part of the experience of fishing...:-/

Wow. Gardening, fishing, good food and nice folks all in the same package. Does it get any better? (Young men...don't answer that question in writing, it's rhetorical!) :-)

TMB you know you on speed dial. I love to fish the Bay and Outside the Gate. I have halibut, sturgeon rigs, salmon it would be a good day on the water. The best fish out there are Sand dabs. The nonresident license is only 22.04 for two days. dirrtyd

Loch Lomond has since re-opened. It's a seasonal recreational area, it re-opens in April 1st I think.
One of the coolest thing I've ever seen was at Loch Lomond fishing out of a friends boat.
We were fishing first thing in the morning, before the crack of dawn, we were the only ones on the lake. My buddy says..."What the hell is that" pointing to the middle of the lake. It was something swimming...Goose, or duck, or some kind of waterfowl maybe? But just didn't look right. Had shit sticking up above it's head, we couldn't figure out WTF it was. So we drove on over to check it out.
IT WAS A GOD DAMNED BUCK SWIMMING ACROSS THE LAKE! WHAT THE HELL! He was breathing hard, but was making his way across. We trailed him until he made it to the other side, a good 15 minutes plus later. This dude was BAD ASS! He got out, turned to look at us, then trotted off!
This was in 1995, in the middle of summer. Before everyone carried a cell phone, I would of loved to have a picture of that!
Again, medicating and rambling...

Oh yeah. There are rumors of 15-20 footers around the dams near Wenatchee in Central Washington! Can't keep anything less than 3 feet or more than 5 or 6 anymore, but I can't imagine how you could catch and release a huge fish without badly injuring it. I want to try! The rush of catching a big fish is right up there with downhill racing (or blue lights in your rear view mirror, but in a good way).

Further north, the Colville Tribe has net pens full of fresh water salmon (not exactly a steelhead, tho). They regularly escape and are a lot of fun to catch and fantastic on the BBQ. 18-24".
