started at age 19 with nothing bad, got into my accident rolled away with $917,000 dollars in med bill debt. had insurance but tricare for dependants doesnt cover anything. had to do it so this year got the money for the lawyer and filed. got granted and now owe nothing from that incident.

I did when I was 25. Filed with close to 500k in debt. All erased, but dead credit for 7 years. Not that my credit wasn't getting screwed due to late payments and such. Now
my credit is back in check. 2 mini coopers and a house tells me it was worth it, cause I was slowly drowning before.

I've had to file 3x,first when I was 26 after a divorce and car accident, then in my 40's for credit card debt and my 50''s for back taxes. I was a paralegal so I did them myself.

you did the right thing man. i don't see any possible way of digging out of that hole and why should you? this country should have a healthcare system and take care of the people. good 4 u 4 sticking it to them.

I wonder about bankruptcy. Chapter 7 stays on your record for ten years. Credit rteporting agencies can only report negative credit for 7. So it seems to me that if you have had enough, you just quit paying, close your accoutns as a "no pay" and wait 7, instead of 10 years. Am I missing something?

You can't close an account that you owe money on. The account will stay open for as long as you owe money. I'm pretty sure each month you don't pay is a new blemish they can report for another 7 years.

I know there are extenuating circumstances, and big medical bills are certainly one of them, but the rest of you sound like dead beats. Just like when I see the commercials for tax relief. "If you owe over $10,000 to the IRS call us now..." it makes me sick to see those commercials. I get so angry at those people. How the fuck do you owe that much money to the IRS? and why should you get a break because you didn't pay your taxes in full and on time like I did? I was responsible and did what I was legally required to do, so fuck me, meanwhile you didn't pay your debts and now you essentially get free money for it?

I get mad too. I put in my fair share and feel good about it, but its not the people like us who don't pay, that gets my blood boiling. Its all the corporations, religions and whatnot that don't pay. And there's a motherfucking shit ton.
