Are These Preflowers On Top?

Alright so these two plants are a little over 4 weeks old on 18/6 lighting with CFLs. Are these showing signs of female preflowers on the very top node? Is it normal to see this on the top only and not on the other nodes?
Is it just showing its sex early but not budding yet? I was told that I can continue to veg these for a while longer and they will not actually start flowering until I change the photoperiod to 12/12.

Took the last pic to show that there aren't any pistills on the lower nodes

there aren't any pistils on the lower nodes... but it appears there are calyxes that will push out some pistils.



it also looks like you've got some pistils poking out of the crown. Preflowers will show up regardless of your light cycle. They won't start growing on top of each other and forming buds until you switch to 12/12.

Thanks alot man!! I will watch that area closley. I will continue to run light 18/6 for another week or so until they are a little over 6" tall then switch to 12/12. This should give me the perfect size plants for the room I have

One question just occurred to me though.... If some pistils are poking out of the top "crown" like they are, will the plant continue to grow more nodes or is that now officially the "top" of my plant and will become the mail cola?

I don't see any pistils yet, that's just new leaf growth at the top.

If those are (or are not) pistils the plant will continue to grow. Once you put it into 12/12 it will double or triple in size.

Exactly why I want to flip them when they are 6" tall. I'd like them to be no more than a foot and a half tall when they are ready for harvest

I was thinking the same thing. Although I have had some very short and bushy starters that were not autoflower... that did show signs of sex when they were 5-6 inches tall.

Let them get a little taller in veg and start pulling them over to expose the sides of your plant. then switch to 12/12. jmo

Well they are both 4" tall now. Waiting until they are around 6" to flower. Another week probably
