Stem rot

An often-occuring mould affecting cannabis is
pythium. This mould causes root-rot, and rot in the lowest part of the stem. It appears most in young plants, and in cuttings. Larger, healthy plants are less sensitive to pythium. Plants get 'falling-over disease' with a serious pythium attack. We don't have to explain what that means Pythium is recognizable by the bark at the base of the stem turning brown. In the beginning, the 'brown attack' is easily removable. Later, the rotting process eats deeper into the base of the plant. Pythium is a fungus which flourishes best in wet and humid environments. Pythium spores spread only through water. Two kinds of spores are formed; Swarming ones and stable ones. The swarming spores germinate best at a temperature of approximately 15 degrees Celsius, while the stable spores germinate if it's relatively warm; around 28 degrees C. To prevent a pythium attack, a constant temperature of the soil or rockwool is needed. Large fluctuations in temperature should be avoided. Pythium can only be fought in a limited manner with chemicals. A proper relative humidity must also be maintained (not too high). Leaf moulds, such as mildew, and thread moulds occur less frequently than pythium.

i think the roots went like that cus of over topping up the res , it leaves less oxygen in the roots and drowns them equalling rot ! i think a airstone in the bottom will work alot better next time round , but for my 1st practice grow in the water farm id call it a success :)

Everything I've read says you want to keep your water temps below 22 c. Anything above is when root rot happens. I keep my rez below 20c and I've never had rot or mold or anything. Oxygen will help too. I guess I don't understand what a waterfarm is? I don't know why they wouldn't have an airstone with them already. Roots like oxygen. :)

And yeah, like you said, I'd call it a sucess too. Looking forward to the smoke report.

Air pumps and airstones aren't all that effective at adding dissolved oxygen and are noisy. Do a search for power heads in dwc.

how do rob. shame on that plant. do u no wot caused it?? i had a simular problem on last grow. i used some biobizz algimac in a spray to feed ladies. i didnt no was out date n wasnt paying attention to the change in colour. well few hours later i noticed all fan leaves turning rusty in front my eyes. 2 days later all fan leafs was done and it started to attack my sugar leafs, but strangly left the buds alone??
anyways cut long story short i chopped it n dried and had as a pre xmas smoke. wasnt great but better then some that does the rounds.
at the time i had a new type light so i blamed the light distance for the mess up and not the algamic.
ended up using it again stupidly on my blue chedz and within few hours same again. not many fan leafs left. i bin trying to wash any remaining spray off last fewdays and im hoping i have got to it in time. time willl tell tho

clear and precise advise bro. roots love oxygen, not sure if a powerhead would fit in a waterfarm? i've only seen powerheads in fishtanks though tbh

I use a cheap haliea pump with airstone and my roots love it. Meant to get a pic after i chopped, the roots seemed to gather the airstone in the centre of the root ball,so the oxygen would hve been getting to most of it. Looked quite mad lol

google search for "nimby powerhead". Nimby is from the old OG forum and started using powerheads way back. He's popped up recently on icmag and is giving advice on their use

Well guys n gal's update for ya , the SLH is dry (guess being under the light will do that too a girl lol) ive weighed up the dry bud de stalked and theres 107gram so just under 4 oz ! cant complain at all !!
The SLH fuckin stinks , its not like the livers or psycosis but a diff type of stink , id say its just as smelly but in a more citrusy way , its also got a real musky undertone.
As for the smoke report ..... its a nice smoke. its a completly diff buzz to the other stuff im used to growing , i think this is the 1st sativa iv ever grown and also its the 1st haze , the buzz starts in your head , your temples start to feel abit fuzzy then you notice your heart beat feeling more intense and getting faster , you start to feel stoned but still able to function then the more you smoke the more mashed you get , its like being completly fucked but still able to function , but dont be fooled , once you think "im ok" then you crash and your out for the count lol ....
im really impressed to say it was only 8 weeks :)

gonna post some dry bud shots once camera charges up . Also gonna sort seeds out at weekend . theres a few guys who are deffo on the seed fairy list ... HC , Dizzle , Mantz , Del , MDB , anyone else interested in some ? let me know and ill see what i can do :)
