Does Light REALLY hurt your plants roots?

It isnt that light hurts the roots..drying out in air will kill your roots, you are supposed to keep the roots in the dark because of algae growth in your wet root type medium..and then your roots aren't getting enough oxygen because the algae is taking the oxygen and nutrients for itself. So no light doesn't hurt the roots, air hurts the roots, light just facilitates opposing growth on the roots.

OK, I want to dicuss this. Please guys, no trolling. Thanx for the reply missnu! To me, this sort of "disproves" the fact that roots staying wet will cause problems, and I would THINK that alga growth would be rampant here, and it's not, remember, this is just tap water. Now obviously it isn't cannabis, but roots are roots. I've seen many people say that white or clear pots are bad for or will kill roots. Thats what I'm trying to dispel here. YOu don't REALLY need black pots. Roots are supposed to dry out a bit and not stay wet, but here they are obviously vigorous.

The one thing you will notice on your roots there is the lack of root hair formation due to the light exposure severely reducing the surface area used for osmosis...I don't think that people are trying to say light exposure directly kills a root system...its the sensitivity to light and the other problems like algea and pathogen production that light enhances that is the "root" of the problem :D

Jack to the rescue!, I was just about to transplant a lady out of an opaque pot b/c I thought the light was holding up root formation...plus I just drilled out a bunch of others to simulate airpots. I have to run errands, but look forward to reading upon my return.

well for 1. you are not growing marijuana with just tap water. add some nutes to the mix, to feed bacteria and whatnot. and I bet you will see some algae growth.
Ive used clear containers for water storage. ALWAYS ended up with algae. Switched to blue. Problem solved.

But then again, I dont really have algae problems anymore on my dirt like i used to. Also now growing in a controlled environment instead of a basement.

dose light hurt roots ??? i would like to know
Hormones in the roots of cannabis, are allergic to light,

the hormone does not work when light is present(I forget the name)

rootlets the fine hairs down on the roots require heat, dark,

and 02 amongst a heap of other desirables to function correctly

being a grower means you have to know your root zone its vital

many great books abound of the subject

good luck
