Time Travel with a Telescope?

The "mirror" would have had to existed 50 years before you busted out your lil hubble
that's assuming we'll be able to travel at the speed of light

plus you have to think about the angles involved, and the timing. you'd have to place the mirror and telescope in spots where they will be able to line up perfectly. not only the position on the planets but the angle they're set to. and thinking about how fast planets actually move in orbit, they're only gonna line up for a moment. assuming you get a clear shot through all the other shit in space

Most beginner astronomers might start a refractor. Maintenance and care is necessary to give this type of telescope is a lot less. As the reflecting telescope may need more care and maintenance, but it will show in the long run more effective.

You would not see yourself, you would only see what happened on that planet 50 years ago. Assuming all of the impossible aspects of this, it would be someone 100 years in the future that would see you looking back at them, now that would trip them out, but 100 years from now, we would have already taken over that planet, enslaved it's peoples and plundered all of it's resources.

You actually look into the past every time you look at the sky. I forget which star it was, but it just went Red Giant phase for us, but that happened like million years ago. Time travel is all relative anyway.

Thanks CN, I just saw your post after I posted mine and saw we were talking to someone from 4 years ago, trippy :dunce:

If you look in a mirror in your bathroom, you will also see a past you from 0.1 milliseconds or something like that.

I find myself pondering this when I'm really baked....suppose you were looking at another planet...say 50 light years from earth with a VERY powerfull telescope...the laws of physics say you would be seeing what was happening there 50 yrs in its (the planet) past...NOW suppose there is a MIRROR on that planet reflecting your image back to you (for the sake of argument it would act as telescope as well)....you would see earth as 50 yrs in the past right?...pretty mind bending!...and if you could focus down to street level..would you actually see people walking/driving around??
YOU SIR ARE THIS MONTHS IDIOT OF THE WEEK .

How is this time travel? Light travels at a certain speed and takes a certain amount of time to reach it's destination. This is called regular travel, through space, not time travel.

This is a pointless argument, everyone knows you need a Delorean to go onto the past just ask Doc and Marty McFly.
