Pot size vs.strain?

I have always been under the assumption that a five gallon (at least three) is the standard. Last grow I used a substantially smaller pot with great results. It also seems to me the strains I'm growing have a relatively small root mass. Because I have limed space any advice on this subject?

Hey man great subject. MY last grow was in 5 gallon pots 4 plants.The previous grow was in 3 gallon pots 6 plants. Each were different strains but I got just as much from the 5 gallon as I did from the 3 gallon.But they were different strains so it would not be a good comperason. the general rule of thumb is THE BIGGER THE ROOT THE BIGGER THE FRUIT!

No not bigger pots bigger buds. If you only planon vegging a month your roots aren't going to fill a 5 gallon pot. I use cfls so I use 2 gallon pots and veg for 3-4 weeks. Rarely have many roots on the outside when I harvest. My bro uses HPS and uses 5 gallon pots. Vegs' for 6-7 weeks and never has seen root mass covering the circumference of the pot. Its all about how long you veg for. Roots really don't grow crazy in flower. The hormones that promote major root growth are the same hormones that travel up the plant in the dark and initiate flowering. Its really all about how long you veg for.

Let me explain more for chickens narrow mind. Yes bigger root mass means your plant can be bigger thus the buds will be bigger. This guy stated he used a smaller pot with the same results which leads you to believe hes not vegging to fill his bigger pots with roots so extra unused soil isnt going to make his buds bigger. He also said hes in limited space which means hes not growing 6 foot plants. Y would you need a big pot if its not helping you gain any more bud and you dont have the space for it, like he said in the OP. Maybe you should read before just posting some one line crap that a kid could figure out.

your gonna have to make me believe u because weed grows roots like o mofo if your in 2 gallon pots and dont c many roots after harvest your doing something wrong maybe overwattering like a rookie or maybe your soil is just too dense ...... now i dont doubt that u can grow big buds in a two litre bottle but the more soil u have under your plants the better unless your worried about space weight disposal that sort of stuff ......the more soil the better.....bigger faster growing plants w larger buds

I water just right so my roots don't stretch. That's not rookie huh? I think of it like hydro in soil. If I give it everything it needs why would it go searching for nutes? Im not a rookie and all I do one this site is help people. This guy does have limited space so y would a bunch of soil be good because from the info he gave HE ISNT vegging long enough for it to make a difference in his buds. Someone like you is probably the reason he started out using pots that were bigger than his needs because instead of looking at the guys setup or reading anything he said you just say bigger is better. What if he vegges for a month and grows 2-3 foot plants. Does he really need 5 gallon pots? The answer is no so stop being an ass. You have a lot of nerve Mr Justsignedupthismonth. This is my experience! Because I have limited space I would prefer smaller pots but not at the expense of quality or quantity. It appears 1.5 to 2 gallons would do just fine based on my past observations but I know this goes against everything I've been told in the past. I too veg for 30 and flower for eight weeks and have never seen roots taking over a pot.

See I'm not the only one. Sorry about disputing all of your thread swisher. Yea 3 gallon pots would be the max I would use for a 30 day veg. 2 is fine if you water properly. I wouldn't go as low as 1.5 but if for the way you grow it doesn't make a difference go for it. What is the I don't think so post there for? LOL

As bostoner states, bigger pot dose not make a bigger plant. Bigger root mass means bigger plant. A bigger pot facilitates a larger root mass. Like saying a bigger car makes a faster car, nop, a bigger engine will make a faster car, the bigger car will facilitate this larger engine.
