Nice looking plants man. Do you use different mixes of Soilless?
Thanks ie!:leaf:

My soil plants are just in the "Humboldt Mix". It's Humboldt Nutrient's brand of soil. I don't mix anything else with it tho.

My soilless plants are in a coco/perlite mix at a ratio of 4 parts coco to 1.5 parts perlite.

Is this what you're asking?

Yes that is what I was asking. Which do you prefer more? I used to love soil until I switched to a 70/30 coco mix. Makes life a lot easier with such a smaller amount of Leaves to deal with and trim plus light penetrating much better. I've grown Grape ape and Afgooey and really liked both of them. I love the smell of afgooey(similar to a lot of other FROSTY plants i've grown which the smell is always my fav part of them). I am kind of surprised they are both the same cuts I had also. That Grape Krush I am growing now is very similar to Grape Ape. It's weird I have grown about 4 strains nearly identical to that Grape ape in structure, smell, buds etc. The biggest difference some smell sweeter and others rotten(Master Kush, Qwerkle, Grape Ape, Grape Krush and I feel like there is one more...).Looks like your getting a pretty nice yield off that Grape Ape. The only thing I don't like about these strains are the bottom buds usually are fairly small so I cut quite a few branches off the bottom. Anyway don't want to blow up your Journal too much.

You arent blowing up my journal. Come in and feel free to post anytime about whatever. We dont bite lol.

And this is actually my first experiment with Coco, but so far I like it a lot! I will be doing this comparison to see which I like more...soil or coco. I feel like the coco stays much cleaner and it's SO light and airy I know the roots have to love it!! I remember you posting in here a while back about how the Afgooey gets covered in trichs, and boy does it lol!! It's my favorite plant right now. Smells so fcking good. I think it will be some really good smoke.

And yea, from now on I will start trimming a few of the bottom branches off before they go into flower. Makes watering a lot more difficult too having to hold all that shit out of the way. I plan to use all the bottom undeveloped popcorn buds and make some kind of hash or wax this go around.

Yeah I usually make hash with the airy buds from the bottom I really don't feel like trimming.. Once you learn more about the strain you are growing you know how much to trim up the bottom branches. I seem to trim it up more and more before flowering every grow. Depending on the strain and how big it is I clear up about the bottom 6-12 inches because really it only takes up energy for buds that don't do much for you. Hash is always nice but I enjoy bigger buds honestly.

It really is amazing the difference between Coco and Soil. My friends give me vegged plants in soil and I always forget how many FN leaves soil plants produce. You can't even see the stalk and mine I have at most half the leaves as his do with the same strain. I also find buying bricks of Coco and a bag of perlite is cheaper than buying bags of premixed soil(in most cases). I usually fill up my 32 gal trashcan for about 30 bucks. The only thing about the bricks is getting them to fluff up. You also REALLY need to flush them better than the company does(with the brand I buy anyway).

:leaf: I was debating whether or not to take a few of those bottom branches off, but I decided not to b/c I don't want to stress the ladies out ANYduring flowering. I hate that it's wasting energy, but I suppose I'll be ok with some hash this time. Next round I'm definately gonna butcher 'em up a little bit.

:leaf:I was unaware that coco made the plants produce less leaves. I suppose this would be great for the light penetration, though. Also I got this coco in a bag, as opposed to the block. I figured it would prolly be a bitch to break that compressed block up, that's why I went with the bag. Here it is...

Coco.jpg

...and yes, it was much cheaper than the soil I get. This bag of coco was only $22 and the 20L bag of perlite was $10. A total of 70L and $32.

This soil that all my other plants are in is $55...

Oh I take branches off all the times the first few weeks of flowering if they don't look like they will do much good. I wouldn't worry about that but I try to leave my lady alone after week 3 or so. The Bricks are fairly easy to deal with actually. I have two 32 gal trash cans 1 for storage and the other has a bunch of holes in the bottom and I throw the brick in there and run the shower for about an hour while occasionally going in there and breaking the outside off. It's all about the price and those Bricks are like 13 dollars for around 25 gallons worth(give or take). Anyway running it under the shower for an hour ensures it is flushed very good and fluffs it up at the same time. The instructions say to just add 7 gallons of water or something like that too it but when I did that it reeked of Sulfur(idk why) and casued Mag deficiencies so I always flush my coco no matter what kind it is before I use it.

LOL, I know man. Yesterday I was holding a little side cola on it and checking out some trichs. I got res all over my fingers so I just licked it off lol. Tasted like I was eating an edible.

:-D:lol: Thanks flowmasta!! It does smell great. Puts a smile on my face everytime I cut my heat on because the flower room is in the same room as the air return, so the entire house starts reeking of all those smells whenever I cut it on LOL.:leaf::lol:

What brand of coco do you use? I am using Botanicare CocoGro in 5 Kilo blocks

It really is impressive how much that brick fluffs up to. I didnt flush whatsoever but i did do a test on 1 cup of the coco mixing it with pH 5.8 water at ppm 150 and it rose to 215ppm and pH 5.9 after about an hour, so I wasn't too worried about that

I like the idea with the shower... its been hell trying to break those bricks apart the recommened amount of water would never saturate the dry pieces and I would end up trying to crunch it between my fingers for an hour or more

I just cut off all my bottom most branches in week 2 of flower. I now have a total of 4 branches per plant - The 2 tops and 2 bottom branches. Those get the most attention from the plant anyways. If all the vigor goes into those 4 branches then I dont want to waste the space underneath or the energy growing small popcorn that will take away from the overall vigor of the main parts of the plant.I know it seems like alot of bud wasted when you see all the branches on the floor, but they make it up 2 fold in the vigor they tops will get now.

Your Sour Diesel looks exactly like my Sour Cream. EXACTLY! LOL

Yea I will definately trim up the next run. It's not the sense of loss I feel about removing the bottom branches, I just want these ladies to be as happy as they possibly can during bloom.:leaf::grin:
